Tiger Woods gives his son Charlie, 15, a ‘very special’ new job ahead of US Open

His boy Charlie took part in his first US Open qualifying event back in April.

But despite missing out himself, the teenager will still play a role in assisting his old man at Pinehurst.

Charlie has been spotted out on course with his dad this week, having been appointed as his swing coach.

Discussing his son’s position, Woods said: “As far as his responsibilities, it’s the same [as those of a coach].

“I trust him with my swing and my game. He’s seen it more than anybody else in the world.

“He’s seen me hit more golf balls than anyone.

‌”I tell him what to look for, especially with putting.

“He gave me a couple little side bits today, which was great, because I get so entrenched in hitting certain putts to certain pins, I tend to forget some of the things I’m working on.”

Having been plagued by injuries in recent years, Woods is relishing the opportunity to share such quality time on course with his son.

The 15-time major champion said: “I think having Charlie out here is very special.

“We have a great relationship and rapport, and it’s a wonderful experience for both of us.

“To extend it into this part of both of our lives. He’s playing a lot of junior golf, and I’m still playing out here.

“It’s neat for him to see the guys that he watches on TV and YouTube and TikTok, whatever the hell it is that they do.”

‘IT’S JUST A MATTER OF DOING IT’

Woods, who won this tournament in 2000, 2002 and 2008, will spend the first rounds playing alongside Yorkshireman Matt Fitzpatrick.

On the task ahead, he added: “I feel like I have the strength to be able to do it. It’s just a matter of doing it.

“This golf course is going to test every single aspect of your game, especially mentally.

“We’ve been working on that and making sure that in the next two days I get to understand the game plan.”

The US Open will be just Woods’ fourth event of 2024.

He played at the Genesis Open in February, before turning up at Augusta for the Masters in April.

Woods was last in action at the PGA Championship last month.
