Tigers-Diamondbacks Trade Idea Lands 29 Home Run Slugger in Detroit

The MLB trade deadline season is in full swing, and for teams like the Detroit Tigers, who have aspirations of making a World Series run, this time provides them the opportunity to refine and make notable additions to their roster. Detroit is having a stellar season, backed by its four All-Star position players in Javy Baez, Riley Greene, Gleyber Torres, and, most recently, Zach McKinstry. And that’s not even mentioning AL Cy Young frontrunner Tarik Skubal.

However, Detroit could still go all-in at the July 31st deadline for either a depth starting pitcher or a third baseman. Detroit is 59-35, almost surely going to win the American League Central, and has the best record in all of Major League Baseball.

Diamondbacks Predicted to Send Eugenio Suárez to Detroit

The Arizona Diamondbacks are the most fascinating team at the deadline this season. They have a plethora of assets that any contending team would like to add. The conundrum is whether or not they are willing to sell off those pieces, like Eugenio Suárez, unless it’s for the right asking price.

Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly predicts that the Diamondbacks will eventually move on from Suárez, and Arizona will send him to the Detroit Tigers, which would sure up the Tigers’ left side of the infield.

“The Arizona Diamondbacks are hovering around .500, and considering they entered the year with World Series aspirations, selling would be a tough pill to swallow. But sometimes you have to know it isn’t your year, and with Corbin Burnes lost to Tommy John surgery and Corbin Carroll recovering from a left wrist fracture, general manager Mike Hazen would be wise to capitalize on all the intriguing rentals on his roster. At the forefront of Arizona’s impending free agents is slugging third baseman Eugenio Suárez. He’s picked up right where he left off after a massive second half last year by hitting 29 home runs and posting an .883 OPS in the first half of 2025, en route to his second career All-Star Game selection,” writes Kelly.

Suárez is Having a Career Year

We’ve always known Suárez to have immense power, but this season it feels like he is putting it all together. As Kelly outlined, his power numbers are incredible, sitting fourth in all of MLB with 29 home runs. He also has 75 runs batted in before the All-Star break. Certainly a deserving All-Star, but the next question is, will he get dealt in the coming weeks? As with all massive deals like this, it usually hinges on the team that is giving away the star player, so the Arizona Diamondbacks, in this case.

Suárez is set to be a free agent after this season, and the 33-year-old is likely going to demand a lot of money. This gives Arizona the chance to send him away now, with the chance that he doesn’t come back during free agency. Arizona would return one of the Detroit Tigers’ best prospects, and probably another MLB-now type arm.

This blockbuster type deal would send shockwaves through the league, and certainly give the Tigers one of the best odds to win the Fall Classic in October.
