The National Football League may have witnessed one of the worst trades in league history. On Monday, July 28, the Tennessee Titans officially released Treylon Burks. Burks, the No. 18 overall pick in the 2022 draft, was traded to Tennessee along with three other players for A.J. Brown.
Ultimately, the Philadelphia Eagles came out on top. Acquiring Saquon Barkley sure helped their Super Bowl run, but Brown did as well. With Burks being cut, fans reacted accordingly as this trade goes down as an all-timer.
AJ Brown vs. Treylon Burks
After being traded, Brown immediately signed a four-year, $100 million extension with Philadelphia. He had a pair of 1,000+ yard seasons in Tennessee, but he immediately totaled career highs with the Eagles.
Brown played all 17 games in 2022-23, a first for his career. He turned that into 1,496 and 1,456 yards, with 18 total touchdowns in those two seasons. His 2024 campaign resulted in 39 fewer receptions than the year prior, but he still managed to record 16.1 yards per catch.
Having spent three seasons with each team now, 4,031 of Brown’s 7,026 yards have come in Philadelphia. He missed four games last season, attributing to his decrease in yards and receptions. When he played 13 games in 2021, he finished the season with 869 yards with 63 receptions.
As for Burks, his career has been plagued with injuries. The Arkansas graduate is three years younger than Brown, with many thinking he still has a bright career ahead of him. At this point in time, it just didn’t work out on the Titans.
The former first round pick has 699 career receiving yards. He’s never played more than 11 games in a season, and he had just 34 yards on four receptions last year. Even though he only played in five games, he still averaged fewer than one reception per game.
Ultimately, Burks’ career has only gone downhill since 2022. That’s the year where he hauled in the lone touchdown of his career, and has highs in receptions (33) and yards (444).

PFSN pointed out AJ Brown has a B, A-, and A WR+ grade while Burks only qualified for an F in 2023. Numbers don’t lie, and the difference between Brown and Burks is appalling.
One Titans fan had nothing positive to say, “I have no words to describe the hatred I have for Jon Robinson, our former gm. He absolutely destroyed our franchise with his abysmal trades and draft picks.”
Robinson was fired in 2022 and hasn’t gotten another job since. He is a two time Super Bowl Champion, with his tenure in Tennessee lasting from 2016-22.
“So the Titans traded A.J. Brown for… 14 games of cardio from Treylon Burks. One of the great heists in Eagles history,” this fan mentioned.
This individual joked, “Titans win the trade they were so bad after this they just drafted Cam Ward. Playing chess not checkers.”
Cam Ward will no longer have Burks as an option, opening up a roster spot for another hungry receiver. With Calvin Ridley and Tyler Lockett on the roster, Van Jefferson will likely step up as WR3.
