The Tennessee Titans wasted no time taking advantage of their No.1 waiver claim spot.
On Thursday, they brought in four defensive players to help bolster and strengthen their defense.
Defensive end CJ Ravenell from the Baltimore Ravens, linebacker Dorian Mausi from the Minnesota Vikings, cornerback Samuel Womack from the Indianapolis Colts, and cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis from the Ravens all landed in Nashville.
Of the four players, Armour-Davis headlines the group.
He was one of the most coveted players on waivers with multiple teams having interest.
The Titans used their top spot to secure him as they intend to rebuild their roster.
This wave of signings adds depth, competition and energy as the Titans look ahead to the 2025 season.
Armour-Davis Headlines Defensive Haul
The Titans didn’t just make one move, they stacked up their waiver claims.
All four players, the Titans claimed, add needed depth to every level of the defense.
Ravenell adds size to the defensive line, while Mausi brings versatility to the linebacker group.
In addition, Womack brings more depth to one of the most important positions on defense at cornerback.
Titans GM Mike Borgonzi spoke about the waiver claims, speaking about the importance of adding players to the secondary.
“Corners, you can’t have enough of,” said Borgonzi, per Nashville Post’s John Glennon.
But the biggest splash remains Armour-Davis.
Multiple teams tried to put in a claim for Armour-Davis, but the Titans were able to gain the edge with their position.
The former Ravens cornerback instantly upgraded the Titans cornerback room.
Moreover, the Titans now have seven cornerbacks on the roster, which will provide flexibility at a position of importance.
By adding four defensive players, the Titans showed a bold approach.
They acted immediately to help their roster and maximized their position on the waiver wire.
A good sign for a team in rebuild mode.
Titans Defense Could Ease Ward’s Transition
While much of the Titans offseason has centered around rookie quarterback Cam Ward, the defense may end up being his best ally this season.
The Titans have an opportunity to rely on their defense this season, which will keep games close.
That matters for a rookie quarterback.
Ward will not have to constantly be playing catch-up, which will put him in a position to potentially make more mistakes.
A stingy defense can help the development of a rookie quarterback, just ask the Denver Broncos.
Relying on their beefy defensive front seven, highlighted by Jeffery Simmons, T’Vondre Sweat, Sebastian Joseph-Day, and Dre’mont Jones is a start.
The Titans are in a transitional phase as they usher in a new era.
They aren’t chasing a quick fix, they are laying the groundwork.
By landing the four players they did off of the waiver wire, they added more stability and depth to their defense.
The Titans could have success this season, and it starts with what they have done so far this offseason all the way up to securing the most coveted waiver wire player.
These little details matter when rebuilding a team.
As the 2025 season approaches in just over a weeks’ time, the Titans are ready to see what they can accomplish.
If Cam Ward can have a successful year and the defense holds, there may be something good brewing in Nashville.
