The Tennessee Titans have landed their offensive coordinator.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported earlier Tuesday that the Titans were expected to hire former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll as their offensive coordinator, unless the Las Vegas Raiders were to give him a call.
Now, it’s official, according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. The hire pairs new Titans’ head coach Robert Saleh with one of the NFL’s most accomplished offensive minds to develop first overall pick Cam Ward.
The move comes hours after the Buffalo Bills promoted offensive coordinator Joe Brady to head coach on a five-year deal, effectively removing one of Daboll’s remaining head coaching opportunities, according to Yahoo Sports. With Buffalo off the table and the Las Vegas Raiders moving in a different direction, Daboll accepted Tennessee’s offer to return to coordinating.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Daboll gave Titans head coach Robert Saleh his word that he would join the staff if a head coaching opportunity didn’t materialize.
Titans Hire Former New York Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll as Offensive Coordinator
The 49-year-old Daboll brings extensive experience developing quarterbacks, most notably helping Buffalo’s Josh Allen transform from raw prospect to MVP candidate during his four-year stint as Bills offensive coordinator from 2018-21.
That success earned Daboll the Giants‘ head coaching job in 2022, where he won NFL Coach of the Year honors after leading New York to an 11-6 record and playoff appearance in his first season. The Giants went 20-40-1 overall across Daboll’s four seasons before firing him midseason in November 2025.
Tennessee desperately needs Daboll’s quarterback development expertise. The Titans finished 3-14 in 2025 and averaged just 16.7 points per game, their second-lowest offensive output since moving to Nashville.
Titans News: Daboll Needs to Develop Franchise QB Cam Ward
First overall pick Cam Ward completed 323 of 540 passes for 3,169 yards, 15 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in his rookie campaign. The 23-year-old showed improvement down the stretch after the Titans fired head coach Brian Callahan in October.
Ward posted a 10-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio over his final eight games following Tennessee’s bye week. His best performance came in Week 12 against Seattle, when he completed 28 of 42 passes for 256 yards with a touchdown and zero interceptions while adding 37 rushing yards.
Daboll’s connection to the Titans organization runs deeper than just this coordinator role. According to multiple reports, he has a strong relationship with general manager Mike Borgonzi from their time together in Kansas City back in 2012. Daboll also interviewed for Tennessee’s head coaching vacancy before the team selected Saleh.
What Brian Daboll Brings to Tennessee
This marks Daboll’s fifth stint as an NFL offensive coordinator. He previously held the position with the Cleveland Browns from 2009-10, Miami Dolphins in 2011, Kansas City Chiefs in 2012, and Buffalo Bills from 2018-21.
The hire pairs a defensive-minded head coach in Saleh with an offensive coordinator who has sat in the big chair. The combination aims to stabilize a franchise that hasn’t made the playoffs since 2021, when Tennessee earned the AFC’s top seed before losing to Cincinnati in the divisional round.
Daboll inherits an offense that struggled mightily in 2025 but has pieces to build around. Ward showed steady improvement as his rookie season progressed, and the Titans will enter 2026 with a clear offensive vision under one of the league’s most experienced play-callers.
The Titans are set to move into a new stadium in 2027, and they lead the league in cap space heading into the offseason. Getting the offense figured out under Daboll is the first step toward contention in the AFC South.
