Titans Quarterback to Undergo Season-Ending Surgery

If the Tennessee Titans were hoping to ease in Cam Ward to the NFL, that plan has gotten much more difficult.

The Titans announced Will Levis would miss the entire 2025 season after he was recommended to have shoulder surgery on his throwing arm.

Levis, who Tennessee picked in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft and has started 21 games over his two NFL seasons, will have surgery July 29. The 26-year-old was expected to compete with Ward, the first-overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, for the Titans’ starting-quarterback role.

What Happened To Will Levis?

Levis was a full participant in all of the Titans’ off-season workouts, as well as OTAs and mandatory minicamp. But according to the Titans website, Levis recently informed the Titans he would need to have surgery on his right shoulder.

“After consulting with doctors and his representatives, Will Levis has decided to undergo shoulder surgery that will sideline him for the entire 2025 season,” the Titans announced in a statement. “We support his decision to focus on his long-term health.”

Levis has a 5-16 career record with 3,899 yards and a 21-16 touchdown-to-interception rate over his two NFL seasons. He went 2-10 with a 63.1 completion percentage, 2,091 yards, 13 TDs and 12 INTs in 12 starts while splitting time with Mason Rudolph as Tennessee’s QB.

He had worked on his accuracy and technical form in California with quarterback guru Jordan Palmer, which had boosted Levis’ confidence. But now his season is over mere hours before the Titans training camp opens — veterans are slated to report Tuesday and Wednesday will be Tennessee’s first scheduled day of practice.

“He approached the offseason with professionalism and showed clear growth as a leader,” the Titans stated. “We remain confident in his full recovery.”

Who Is The Tennessee Titans Quarterback?

Luckily, the Titans selected Ward, the University of Miami quarterback who holds the D1 record for career touchdown passes, with their first-round selection. Tennessee clearly needed a QB upgrade after its inconsistent play led to a 3-14 record and the top pick in the 2025 draft.

But after Ward, the Titans QB spot is a colossal question mark, especially with Levis now slated to miss the year. Brandon Allen, a 2019 sixth-round pick who has made just 10 NFL starts, and undrafted journeyman Tim Boyle are the other quarterbacks on Tennessee’s roster.

Boyle and Allen have two career NFL wins between them — Boyle is 0-5 in his career — which means the Titans will need to do whatever it takes to keep Ward healthy.

Though Ward had not officially been named the starter, he had taken the most reps with offensive starters during off-season practice — and his fully guaranteed four-year, $48 million contract and high draft slot was always going to make him QB1 at some point this season. But Levis had been the primary back-up QB, taking the bulk of reps with the second team.

The Titans have lauded Levis’ professionalism, and head coach Brian Callahan got this job in part for his work as Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator — where he worked with Joe Burrow.

But the Titans seem likely to add a veteran QB who may be able to mentor Ward and give Tennessee a viable insurance policy.
