Tom Brady Sends Strong Message to Arch Manning After Tough Game

Tom Brady has a strong message for Arch Manning on what he needs to do if he’s going to bounce back after his disappointing Saturday game against Ohio State.

In an interview with Cris Collinsworth of Pro Football Focus, Brady spoke out about Texas losing 7 to 14 against Ohio State. The game was close up to the end, but many fans were quick to turn on Manning anyway, even calling for his backup quarterback to step in.

Brady Said Manning Needs to ‘Dig Within Himself’ After the Ohio State Game

Brady and Collinsworth began talking about Manning’s performance at about 39 minutes into the interview. Overall, Brady was positive about Manning’s future. There’s a long season ahead, he said, and he hasn’t seen anything to indicate that Manning doesn’t have what it takes to persevere.

Collinsworth started out by comparing Manning to Brady.

“He was the next Tom Brady, the way he was getting built up here before the season started,” Collinsworth said. “But he also missed some really easy throws… Ones that made a difference in the game.”

Brady agreed that Manning did struggle at the beginning. But he added that there’s “nothing to show him” that Manning doesn’t ultimately have what it takes to come out on top.

“With social media and Twitter … you can make someone look so great and you can tear them down so quick…” Brady said. “Before, it used to be [that] you have to wait til the paper comes out the next day to make a real evaluation. But in the digital era, it happens in five seconds.”

This can be tough, Brady added, but if it forces Manning to toughen up and dig deeper, he can come out ahead.

“I think there’s a blessing and a curse in some of it,” Brady continued. “The curse is a lot of people pile on. The blessing is… there needs to be resilience built up in the quarterback as well. So even though he didn’t have his best game today, and they lost, if he uses this to his advantage — Arch — he’s going to be tougher for it. And he’s gonna have a better next game because of it.”

Brady Said College Quarterbacks Face Intense Levels of Pressure Today

Brady continued, speaking about the type of intense pressure that college quarterbacks face today.

“And I always felt like, you’ve got to deal with a lot of adversity from a quarterback standpoint to toughen you up to be the true leader for the organization,” Brady continued. “And unfortunately, these kids now at 19 years old or 20, they’re forced to be the leaders of a college organization. And it was probably more the head coach [in the past], but because now there’s so many people moving every year in college, it’s really thrust upon that quarterback position to do that. And you know, they’re young in their development.”

There’s a lot of season left, so don’t count Manning out yet, Brady added.

“So, there’s a long season to play out,” he said. “Arch has years beyond this to still play in college if he wants, but it’s gonna be up to him to see how big he, you know, really wants to dig within himself, and how deep he wants to dig in order to be successful. But there’s nothing to show me that he won’t be that. He’s been that way in high school and even last year. And he’s got a lot of good people around him that know exactly what to do.”
