Tommy Fleetwood’s wife and family are huge supporters of his golf endeavors. From managers to caddies, they have stood behind him in many roles throughout his impressive career.
As he fights for his first PGA Tour win this weekend at the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship, here’s 5 fast facts you need to know about Tommy Fleetwood’s wife and family:
1. Tommy Fleetwood Met His Wife Through the Sport
Fleetwood was introduced to his wife, Clare Craig, through his brother Joe. The two worked together at Hambric Sports Group. Tommy eventually switched to Hambric Sports Group in 2015 and Clare later became his manger. Despite an initial rejection from Clare, Fleetwood eventually won her over. Initially, she was hesitant about their age-difference and professional relationship. In an interview with The Sunday Times, Tommy stated,
“We planned to keep our life and our work separate, for me to find another agent. But it became more apparent I wasn’t going to find anybody I’d trust as much because, after all, Clare is a very, very, very good agent by trade; it wasn’t like she was my wife just helping the family out. So in the end we thought, ‘We’ll just give it a go, but we will never let anything get in the way of our relationship,’ and it’s just always worked perfectly.”
Clare Fleetwood still works as his manager and agent today.
2.Tommy Fleetwood’s Father Fostered His Passion
Tommy Fleetwood has spoken openly about the important relationship he has with both of his parents. As a child, Fleetwood and his father Pete used to sneak into the Royal Birkdale Golf Club together. He later went on to make his first major cut there in 2017.
Fleetwood’s father also caddied for Fleetwood during the the early years of his career. This lasted until 2011, when Fleetwood joined the European Tour. His father’s bad knees prevented him from caddying at a high level. Instead, Fleetwood often looks to his father for advice, reaching out to him in times of need.
3. Tommy Fleetwood’s Mother and Her Messages of Support
Tommy Fleetwood’s mother Sue played an equally impactful role in his successful career. According to Tommy, his mother was the only person he texted everyday, other than his wife. She would also send him words of encouragement prior to his round, sending messages like ‘you’ll have a good day tomorrow.”
Tragically, Sue passed away in 2022 at the age of 60 after a two-year battle with cancer. Tommy has spoken about how difficult it has been since losing his mother stating,
“I went to see her on the Tuesday after the Open. She wasn’t particularly happy but looked the best I had seen her in a year and a half. I came home and said: ‘My mum looks so good today.’ She died the next morning. Who is ever ready for that? She was still young. She was the one person apart from my wife who texted me every day of my life. It was a big loss, a big hole. I felt for my dad, who had sat next to mum for two years and watched her suffer. They had been married for 42 years. I am proud of him for how he handled it all.”
4. Tommy Fleetwood’s 3 Sons
In 2017, Clare gave birth to Franklin Fleetwood, Tommy’s first biological child. Alongside Franklin, Fleetwood is step-father to Clare’s two sons from a previous marriage, Oscar and Murray. They take after their step-father as they make names for themselves in the golf world. Fleetwood has even caddied for the Oscar’s Challenge Tour appearance, where in 2011 Fleetwood himself became the youngest player to win the Challenge Tour Rankings.
Recently, at the 2025 Master’s Par 3 Contest, Franklin stole the show with an adorable interview.
5. Tommy’s Brother Joe is a Former Golf Pro
Tommy has one brother, Joe Fleetwood. Joe is two years older than Tommy, and celebrates his birthday on February 26th. Joe is a former professional golfer according to Business News back in 2011. He has worked in and around the golf world, and was the general manager at High Gosforth Park’s location in England. He then worked at Hambric Sports Group as a commercial manager and player manager where he eventually introduced Tommy to his future wife, Clare.
