The Atlanta Hawks have a winning record without Trae Young this season. Young is currently recovering from a sprained MCL in his right knee and is set to be re-evaluated at the end of the month.
While Young hasn’t requested a trade out of the Hawks, his name has been mentioned in trade rumors since last season. His failure to sign an extension in the offseason further intensified the possibility of Atlanta moving on from him. He could become an unrestricted free agent next summer if he opts out of his player option.
Orazio Cauchi of Basket News dropped three trade ideas involving Young. One of those suggestions was sending the four-time All-Star to the Miami Heat.
Trade Proposal Sends Young to Miami
According to Orazio Cauchi, the Miami Heat are in dire need of a true point guard. Tyler Herro, who is currently recovering from offseason ankle surgery, is more of a scorer than a playmaker.
Here is what a potential deal between the Heat and Hawks could look like:
Hawks receive: Andrew Wiggins, Simone Fontecchio, Nikola Jovic, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and two future first-round picks
Heat receive: Trae Young and Vit Krejci
“Young would give the Heat a point guard with enormous offensive potential, and the player himself could be persuaded to sign a long-term contract with the Florida franchise, which has historically been one of the most popular among players,” Cauchi wrote.
Cauchi also mentioned how the Hawks would benefit from developing Nikola Jovic and Jaime Jaquez Jr. However, the prized assets of the trade are the two future first-round picks that could help shape Atlanta’s future. As for Wiggins and Fontecchio, they are both on expiring contracts and would free up cap space next summer.
Despite being linked to several NBA stars over the years, the Heat have been strict about not overpaying for players. Young could be off limits, especially if he doesn’t want to sign an extension and would prefer to test the free agent market.
While there are no clear reports about the Heat’s trade targets before the deadline, they are actively looking for an answer regarding Terry Rozier‘s status. Rozier is currently away from the team after getting arrested last month due to his alleged links to the FBI’s gambling inquiry into sports betting.
Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported that the NBA is staying mum about Rozier’s status in terms of trades.
Hawks Playing Well Without Young
The Atlanta Hawks have a record of 8-4 since Trae Young went down with a knee injury, as per StatMuse. The Hawks are currently sitting seventh in the Eastern Conference standings with an overall record of 10-7. They are led by Jalen Johnson and Dyson Daniels, who are both having a really good start to the campaign.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania and Ohm Youngmisuk, the Hawks are expected to re-evaluate Young’s knee at the end of November. He was initially given a four-week recovery period, but the franchise could keep him out longer until he has fully recovered.
Young was averaging 17.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game before going down with an injury. He was struggling at just 37.1% from the field and an abysmal 19.2% from beyond the arc.
