Trade Idea Has Bruins Acquiring $27.3M Star Defenseman in Blockbuster

The Boston Bruins were one of the worst teams in the NHL last season, but the Bruins have vowed to return to the playoffs next season.

Heavy.com has a trade idea that sees the Bruins acquiring Ramsus Andersson from the Calgary Flames in a blockbuster deal.

Bruins acquire:

Flames acquire:

The proposed deal would be a blockbuster as Boston would acquire Andersson to further bolster their blue line, for two good NHL players and a first-round pick.

The Bruins would acquire Andersson, who’s entering the final year of his six-year, $27.3 million deal. A trade would come with an extension, as Andersson would be a key part of the Bruins’ blue line going forward. Andersson recorded 11 goals and 20 assists for 31 points in 81 games and would be a key part of the Bruins’ roster going forward.

In return, Calgary would acquire a first-round pick as well as Zacha, whose name has come up in trade rumors. Zacha is entering the third year of a four-year, $19 million deal. Zacha would be a middle-six forward for the Flames, as he doesn’t have a clear-cut role with Boston. He recorded 14 goals and 33 assists for 47 points in 82 games.

Boston would also trade Peeke, who’s entering the final year of his three-year, $8.25 million deal. Peeke would replace Andersson on the Flames’ blue line and add some more depth to the roster. He recorded 1 goal and 16 assists for 17 points in 76 games.

Flames Captain Expects Andersson to be Traded

Andersson is entering the final year of his deal, and his name has come up in trade rumors.

As Andersson’s name has come up in trade rumors, Flames captain Mikael Backlund says he expects the star defenseman to be traded.

“Yeah, he’s getting traded. It’s obvious,” Backlund said at the NHL player media tour in Europe. “But the team wants value. He wants a big contract. So he wants to play well. The team needs him to play well. So, just go out and play. I talked to him, too, and he doesn’t want to be a distraction. So it’s all good. It’s too bad it’s come to this. I don’t think that they’re close to getting an agreement or anything, but you never know. Things could change. We’ll see.”

Andersson will be highly sought after by several teams if he is indeed going to be traded.

Bruins Expect to be a Playoff Team

Boston was one of the worst teams in the NHL last season, but the Bruins are confident they will be back in the postseason next year.

The Bruins didn’t make any splashy moves this offseason, but Boston CEO Charlie Jacobs expects the team to be back in the playoffs.

“I do feel, and we’ve spoken at great length about this, the team that we currently have, healthy, with the additions we intend to make this summer, I anticipate that we’ll have a playoff team and play meaningful hockey at this time of year in 2026,” Jacobs said.

The Bruins finished the season with the year with a record of 33-39-10.
