The Indianapolis Colts have been playing like a Super Bowl-caliber team this season, being led by quarterback Daniel Jones, who has been performing as one of the best QBs this season.
The former Duke Blue Devil was in a training camp battle with Anthony Richardson for the starting spot in Indianapolis and appears to be the right choice.
Jones is among the top five in most passing yards with Indy, helping the team to a 5-1 record, the organization’s best start since the 2009 season.
This is the third time in Richardson’s career that he has been placed on the bench and, unfortunately for him, suffered an orbital bone fracture in warmups before the Week 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals.
One NFL analyst believes the Colts need to add an experienced quarterback after Richardson’s injury.
Colts Trade For 10 Time Pro Bowler

Thanks to a strong offensive line and a mobile QB, Daniel Jones has only been sacked five times this season through six weeks.
While the chances of Jones getting hurt are slim, the team should prepare to have a quality backup in Indy.
ESPN Ben Barnwell names New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson to the Indianapolis Colts as a trade that “makes sense.”
“Getting one former Giants quarterback has worked out well for the Colts… Why not try to collect the whole set? In all seriousness, Indy needs a backup behind Jones…” Barnwell wrote. “This was probably already a need before Anthony Richardson Sr. fractured his orbital bone… If Jones [does] go down, the next man up would be former Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard…”
“Enter Wilson, who is clearly surplus to requirements in New York after being benched for Jaxson Dart. Wilson has made fill-in appearances twice over the past three weeks while Dart was being evaluated for injuries, but the Giants could easily turn that role over to Jameis Winston, who has been the third quarterback all season… We’ve also seen Jones look much better after leaving the Giants to join the Colts. I wouldn’t expect the same sort of leap out of Wilson, but could he be a passable starter if the Colts need someone to step in? It wouldn’t be expensive to find out.”
In Barnwell’s proposal, the Colts would give up a 2026 seventh-round pick to acquire Wilson. If a trade were to happen, it would be the quarterback’s fifth team in five years.
Russell Wilson In Indy

As mentioned, the only backup quarterback on the 53-man roster is Riley Leonard.
A sixth-round draft pick from Notre Dame, help lead the Fighting Irish to the College Football Championship Game. In his final collegiate season, Leonard threw for 2,861 yards and 21 touchdowns.
While Notre Dame is a good college football program, it doesn’t compare to Russell Wilson and his success in the NFL.
Wilson is a former Super Bowl champion with the Seattle Seahawks, a 10-time Pro Bowler and a former second-team All-Pro.
The last few years for the former Super Bowl winner haven’t been the best, but in comparison to an untested rookie, he is a better backup quarterback option.
