The New York Giants‘ upset win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday could give the organization hope that their season isn’t lost after a 0-3 start. The promising performance of Jaxson Dart in his NFL debut, combined with big contributions from fellow rookies like Abdul Carter and Cam Skattebo, has given the franchise renewed hope entering Week 5.
Yet, this win didn’t stop one NFL writer from having the Giants enter the sellers’ market entering October by proposing a deal that would send former first-round pick Evan Neal to another team in the conference ahead of the NFL Trade Deadline.
Trade Proposal Sees Giants Trade OL Evan Neal to the Minnesota Vikings for a Day 3 Pick
Alexander Kay of Bleacher Report dropped a handful of trades that could help put teams over the top earlier this week. Surprisingly, Kay named Giants OL Evan Neal as a player who could instantly help the Minnesota Vikings in 2025.
Evan Neal may be the perfect answer, even though he’s yet to see the field for the New York Giants in 2025,” wrote Kay. “He was relegated to backup guard work this season despite making 27 starts since the G-Men drafted him at No. 7 overall in 2022. He’s most experienced at the tackle positions and could slot in to replace O’Neill immediately, becoming the latest reclamation project in the Twin Cities under head coach Kevin O’Connell.”
In this trade scenario, the Vikings would send the Giants a 2026 seventh-round pick to acquire the former first-round selection from the University of Alabama.
“While Neal has been a draft bust for Big Blue, he’s playing out the final year of his rookie deal and is certain to exit New York after the 2025 campaign,” Kay added. Rather than lose him for nothing after the season, the Giants should be open to trading him Minnesota’s way for a Day 3 pickâa move that will help both clubs.
Kay’s optimism mostly centers around Neal’s draft capital and starting experience, but the fact that Neal isn’t seeing the field for an offensive line unit that has looked rough on multiple occasions this season could be a telling sign of where he is at as a player in 2025. If the Giants can cash out on their former first-round pick from 2022, they may jump at the opportunity.
Could the Giants Explore Offers for Any Other Noteworthy Starters Ahead of the Trade Deadline?
One name that has been tied to recent trade speculation is Kayvon Thibodeaux, who the Giants spent the No. 5 overall pick on back in 2022.
The idea that Thibodeaux could be available via trade came the moment the Giants spent the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Abdul Carter, which gave New York a surplus of top-shelf pass-rushing EDGE defenders on the roster.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report recently placed Thibodeaux atop of his 2025 Trade Block Big Board, which could come to fruition if the Giants receive the right offer ahead of the deadline.
Knox wrote, “If the Giants aren’t overly committed to Thibodeaux, now would be the perfect time to move him. The pivot to Dart at quarterback signals the start of a new era for New York. Moving Thibodeaux could bring back a quality offensive player and/or high draft pick to aid the young quarterback this season or next.”
The Giants beating an undefeated team on Sunday in Dart’s starting debut could see the organization look to give this team another week or two to see what happens before hitting the firesale button — but Thibodeaux’s great start to the season could make him a very valuable commodity for a contending team in need of a pass-rusher ahead of the trade deadline.
