Trade Proposal Sees Jets Cash Out on Breece Hall Ahead of Trade Deadline

The New York Jets‘ season appears to be heading in the wrong direction after a 0-4 start, which could firmly put the organization in the ‘sellers’ market ahead of the trade deadline.

This has one NFL writer believing the team could take this opportunity to cash out on standout RB Breece Hall by acquiring two draft picks in a recent trade proposal.

Jets Deal Breece Hall to the Chicago Bears for a Third-And-Sixth-Round Pick in the 2026 NFL Draft

Breece Hall has been tied to potential trade rumors throughout the offseason and the rough start isn’t likely to quiet those whispers. This has Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay believing the Chicago Bears could make a real push for the veteran ball carrier by sending a third-and-sixth-round pick to New York to acquire the Iowa State product.

“Hall has declined in recent years after making a massive splash as a rookie. He’s now averaging a career-low 4.1 yards per carry and could be expendable with both Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis pushing the fourth-year veteran for touches,” wrote Kay. “A change of scenery may be exactly what Hall needs to revive his career. He averaged an impressive 5.1 YPC in his first NFL season and clearly has the talent to be a playmaker in the league.

Hall has been an efficient ball carrier on a struggling Jets offense this season with 238 rushing yards over his 52 carries — which comes in at 4.58 yards per carry. The pass-catching production has been a bit more hit or miss with Justin Fields in-and-out of the lineup due to injury, but he has caught nine passes for 61 yards over the last two games. Back in 2023, Hall caught 76 passes for 591 yards and four touchdowns on a woeful Jets offense.

“D’Andre Swift remained the team’s RB1 after a disappointing 2024 performance and hasn’t fared much better despite the schematic shift ahead of his second year with the club,” added Kay. “Swift is averaging an abysmal 3.3 yards per carry through the first four games of 2025, regressing from the already-concerning 3.8 YPC he posted last season. With his receiving work (13 catches for 85 yards) also failing to move the needle, there’s a real need for a change to Chicago’s backfield platoon.”

Swift has been pedestrian this season, which does make adding a running back who could raise the ceiling of this rushing attack very plausible for a team who has bounced back from an 0-2 start. Additionally, Bears rookie running back Kyle Monangai hasn’t given the organization any reason to believe he is the answer at the position, which is another reason to believe Hall could be worth a phone call.

Does the Injury to Braelon Allen Complicate Trading Away Breece Hall?

One fly in the ointment to a potential deal involving Hall comes in the form of a knee injury Braelon Allen sustained against the Miami Dolphins on Monday, which could make the Jets hesitant to deal Hall at this moment in time.

Sure, the team could elect to simply capitalize on the opportunity to deal away a running back on an expiring rookie deal to help accelerate an inevitable rebuild in New York, which would leave the Jets with just Isaiah Davis as potentially the only healthy running back on the roster.

Hall’s play this season could give him a market approaching the trade deadline, but dealing one of the most productive players on the offense could be viewed as the franchise waiving the surrender flag on the 2025 NFL season.
