H
e can do it all. Travis Hunter will line up on both sides of the ball for the Jacksonville Jaguars this season, where he will forever change the history of football. Winning the Heisman Trophy in 2024 after dominating as both a cornerback and a wide receiver for Colorado, Hunter will look to transition that to the NFL and be the first full-time two-way player in modern NFL history. But aside from being a dominant football player, Hunter was also a dominant scholar during his days as a Colorado student.
After his preseason debut, a social media post showed Hunter’s GPA at Colorado, revealing that the two-way superstar was an exceptional student during his two years at the university.
Hunter’s College GPA
In the post, it is revealed that Hunter managed a 4.0 GPA in two out of the four semesters he was at Colorado. Overall, he left with a 3.8 GPA– a very strong GPA– all while handling the rigors of playing both sides of the ball.
“What can’t he do,” one user commented.
“Dude does it all,” another one said.
Hunter majored in psychology, and for his strong efforts in the classroom, he earned numerous academic accolades, including the Academic All-American of the Year and earning first-team Academic All-American honors during both of his seasons at Colorado. On the field for the Buffaloes, Hunter was equally as impressive–especially during his Heisman campaign– catching 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns on offense while recording 36 total tackles, four interceptions, 11 passes defended and a forced fumble on defense. Hunter’s efforts guided Colorado to a 9-4 record, an appearance in the Alamo Bowl and a final ranking of No. 25– the program’s best finish to a season since 2016.
Hunter’s Training Camp So Far
Since joining the Jaguars as the No. 2 pick, the franchise has made it clear that he would see snaps on both sides of the ball. During training camp practices, Hunter has flip flopped between offense and defense, alternating days that he spends with each unit and is a starter at cornerback and a backup at wide receiver, according to the Jaguars’ first depth chart of camp.
In his preseason debut, Hunter showed flashes of his two-way potential, but also exhibited some major growing pains in his first taste of action in the NFL. Catching two passes for nine yards on offense– with one big gain negated by a penalty, Hunter missed a big tackle opportunity on defense that led to a big gain by the Pittsburgh Steelers. But Jaguars head coach Liam Coen liked what he saw from the rookie in his first opportunity.
“I think he made a couple good catches on some option routes,” Coen said postgame. “He missed the one tackle defensively that I noticed, like that was the only thing that I kind of noticed. In terms of his about his overall play, I’ll have to watch the tape on how he operated defensively a little bit more, but I thought offensively he made the right decisions on those option routes. He made a good catch and almost broke out of that one.”
Hunter and the Jaguars will continue their preseason campaign on Sunday, August 17, when they hit the road to take on the New Orleans Saints. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET) and will air on NFL Network or if you are in the Jacksonville area, it will air on one of the local cable channels.
