The Kansas City Chiefs will kick off their Christmas Day game without much on the line, having already lost their chance at the playoffs and also lost star quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a major injury.
But there is still some drama surrounding the game, which could be the final home game of Travis Kelce’s career — and the last time fiancée Taylor Swift gets to watch him in person.
Amid the game, a new update has emerged about the famous couple and a heartfelt message from the Chiefs tight end to his “Lover.”
Travis Kelce’s Love Note Revealed
In the sixth episode of the docuseries on Swift’s Eras Tour, titled “Taylor Swift: The End of an Era,” the singer revealed a sweet note that Kelce sent before her final show of the tour.
As People magazine reported, Swift could be seen reading the note to her mother while she was backstage at the final show.
“So many unbelievable memories on this tour but my favorite one is seeing you in concert for the first time and being mesmerized and swept off my feet by a woman who doesn’t even know me,â Taylor read as she held a bouquet of white roses.
âSelfishly I say thank you for creating this legendary tour and to Robert [Allen] for making you stop through Kansas City, Missouri, that night too in KC was the beginning of me meeting the love of my life,â Swift read.
The couple got engaged before the start of the season, with reports that they plan to tie the knot near Swift’s house in Rhode Island in June.
Anticipation Builds for Christmas Day Game
The NFL schedule makers likely envisioned a game filled with playoff implications when the Chiefs host the Denver Broncos on Christmas Day, and that may still be half-true. The Chiefs have nothing to play for and will be down to their third quarterback after injuries to Mahomes and Gardner Minshew, but the Broncos are trying to hold onto the No. 1 overall spot for the playoffs.
Instead, the game will have some personal implications for Kelce and Swift. It is the final Chiefs home game of the year, which means it could be the last game that Swift attends before Kelce heads off to retirement.
Swift changed her game attendance habits after the 2023 season, skipping out on all road games and only watching Kelce from his family’s suite at Arrowhead Stadium. She did watch Kelce in his Super Bowl loss last year in a neutral site, but has not hit the road for any games since the end of the 2023 season.
Kelce has not said whether he plans to retire, skipping out on media sessions after games and saying only that he was focused on playing out the end of the season.
âIâd rather keep the focus of the media and everything on this team right now,â Kelce said via Pro Football Talk. âAll the conversations I have with the team and everything moving forward will be with them. I think itâs a unique time in my life.â
