Travis Kelce’s Behavior on Chiefs’ Sideline Turns Heads

The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off the 2025 preseason by taking on the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, August 9.

While the Chiefs took an early 14-3 lead, Kansas City ultimately lost 20-7 in the meaningless exhibition game. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid initially suggested that quarterback Patrick Mahomes would play a full quarter before rotating through the backups, but the three-time Super Bowl MVP remained on the field for a total of 48 seconds.

Mahomes played three snaps, including a 1-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jason Brownlee. While on the sidelines, the 29-year-old quarterback remained attentive.

The Kansas City Star’s Vahe Gregorian reported, “Mahomes was repeatedly in the ear of offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, never more visibly than in the final 4 minutes of the game — more than three hours after he’d been removed.”

On remaining immersed in the preseason matchup, “You know me. I love it. I love the game. So I’ll always be locked in in there,” Mahomes said.

The team captain left the sidelines to take a knee on the field after Deon Bush went down in the second quarter. Reid confirmed the worst after the game: Bush suffered a season-ending Achilles injury — a devastating blow for the veteran.

Like Mahomes, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was used sparingly on Saturday night. Kelce, entering his 13th and possibly final season in the league, participated in three snaps and recorded zero catches. However, it was his behavior on the sidelines that caught attention.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce’s Dance Moves Went Viral During the Cardinals Preseason Game

It comes as no surprise that Kelce didn’t see a lot of action against the Cardinals, and it seems unlikely he’ll play a ton during the preseason in general. However, he continued to deliver the good vibes from start to finish.

Kelce dancing on the sidelines with Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones turned heads during the game. Fans loved seeing the 10-time Pro Bowler stay loose and bring good energy to his teammates.

One of the many reasons Kelce is such a valuable asset to the Chiefs is his experience and the leadership he brings as a veteran. While it looks like may look like he’s simply. having fun, which is also true, the All-Pro also takes time to mentor the team’s younger players.

Coach Reid is a huge fan of what Kelce brings to the table during the preseason. “You look at these veteran guys, with Pat leading the charge on that,” Reid told reporters after the game, noting that Kelce and Jones are right there with him.

“They like watching these young guys play, and they’re cheering for them. At the same time, they’re trying to teach them, too. They’re hard on them when they goof up, which I’m okay with. Peer pressure is good pressure.”

As for the team’s performance as a whole, “There were some good things even though it didn’t [end] that way. The [first team] played well when they were in. They were sharp,” Reid said. “After that, we were too sloppy. Too many penalties. Going backward offensively… and going forward with penalties we had defensively. We have to take care of that. Ten penalties for 108 yards, that’s a good rushing day for a team. You can’t give that up with penalties.”
