Tua Tagovailoa Details Extent Of Severe Injury Prior To Week 8

The Miami Dolphins pulled off a surprise win against the notoriously fickle Atlanta Falcons, who have found ways to beat arguably the league’s best team, the Buffalo Bills, and now get blown out by one of the AFC cellar-dwellers in Miami.

Tua Tagovailoa threw for 205 yards and 4 touchdowns on Sunday, going 20/26 for a very impressive 138.6 quarterback rating, in an outstanding performance that will silence his increasingly loud critics, at least for the next few days.

What’s more, this was not just any ordinary game for the former National Champion. Going into the game, Tagovailoa revealed after the fact that he was suffering from some very worrying concerns with regard to his vision, per the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson.

Tia Tagovailoa Reveals Pre-Game Eye Ailment

“Tua said eye was swollen shut when he woke up, and Dolphins treated him with antibiotics.” Jackson posted on X on Sunday after the game, before quoting Tagovailoa who said “I had some thoughts what it could be or might be, but none of those seem to be what it was. Maybe a stye or allergic reaction. We’ll be able to figure it out when we get back.”

Given this information from Jackson, it seems that the Dolphins’ starter could have had a real chance to not be medically to play, if he was not able to see out of one eye.

This performance – against what was the #2 ranked total defense in the NFL coming into the game, in Atlanta – is perhaps even more impressive given that Tagovailoa admitted earlier in the week that he was having “vision” issues with regards to finding some of his better wideouts even with the full use of both of his eyes.

“I think with that, some of it has to do with being able to see guys with their guys also up front and our guys,” Tagovailoa said earlier in the week, referring to the struggles he had been having in getting the ball to current WR1, Jaylen Waddle, “I’m not the tallest guy in the back there either, so being able to see and then sometimes when that happens, you don’t want to just throw it blindly.”

What Is Next For The Dolphins Offense Going Forward?

The Dolphins are now 2-6. And despite the very solid win in week 8, the team – on both offense and defense – has a ways to go before they can be considered to be somewhere even nearing the broader playoff bubble.

And the ensuing weeks do not lend themselves to winnable games that can help Miami progressing with momentum: they face the Ravens, who will likely have Lamar Jackson back in the fold, followed by the Bills.

But the Dolphins will, nevertheless, be encouraged by what was easily the team’s best performance to date this season. And, perhaps more importantly – Tua’s best play in 2025.
