Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez are set to miss Manchester United’s Premier League match against Tottenham on Saturday.

Mainoo is yet to start a Premier League game this season and was left on the bench for the 2-2 draw away to Nottingham Forest last Saturday.

Martinez, meanwhile, returned to full training last week following his anterior cruciate ligament injury but Ruben Amorim has stressed that the World Cup winner will not be rushed back.

Both Mainoo and Martinez were not seen with the United squad at Stockport station on Friday afternoon, suggesting that they will not be in the matchday squad for the 12:30pm kick-off on Saturday.

Elsewhere, 18-year-old academy midfielder Jack Fletcher is set to be included in United’s matchday squad for the first time this season.

Fletcher, who is the son of former United midfielder Darren Fletcher, was named in the first-team squad on seven occasions last season but is yet to make his senior debut.

Speaking ahead of the game, Amorim insisted that United supporters should not be fixated on starting the same side every week due to their lack of European football this season.

‘First of all, I think we cannot just connect these two points [consistency of team selection and the results],’ Amorim said.

‘We can have different starting XIs and, especially with one game per week, we need to have that fighting during the week.

‘And I need to make some changes, not just for the short term, but for the long term.

‘I think we are improving as a squad. We are winning games because we train better, we understand better the game. We have more options. So it’s more, the consistency from the results is more a squad thing than a starting XI.’

Manchester United squad vs Tottenham

Goalkeepers: Lammens, Bayindir, Heaton

Defenders: Dalot, Yoro, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Dorgu, Shaw, Maguire

Midfielders: Ugarte, Casemiro, Fernandes, Mount, Jack Fletcher

Forwards: Cunha, Amad, Sesko, Mbeumo, Zirkzee

United currently sit eighth in the Premier League table with 17 points from 10 games.

Amorim’s side are unbeaten in their last four Premier League games and a win over Spurs would taken them to second in the table before all the other matches are played.

Spurs, meanwhile, lost 1-0 to Chelsea last weekend but recovered with a 4-0 win at home to FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Ahead of their game against United, Thomas Frank has confirmed that Mohammed Kudus remains an injury doubt.
