With just a little more than a month until the end of the 2025 season, the Boston Red Sox are heading up the Wild Card standings, while the New York Yankees are going the opposite direction.
On Saturday, the Red Sox created another dominating victory over their rivals, 12-1. This would be their eighth win in nine games this season.
Many players could be highlighted, including young guys and some veterans. Outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela was 2-of-5 at the plate with two hits, two runs, one RBI, and no strikeouts. Two players with outstanding performances on Saturday and career moments were starting pitcher Garrett Crochet and shortstop Trevor Story.
Red Sox’s Garrett Crochet Throws 500 Career Strikeouts
Crochet remains one of the top new additions to the Boston Red Sox this season. On Saturday, he got his 14th win in 19 games of his Red Sox career, and it wasnât close. Irochet allowed only five hits, one home run, and one walk in seven innings while delivering 11 strikeouts.Â
With this impressive performance, Crochet passed 500 career strikeouts. This puts the 26-year-old pitcher at 207 strikeouts this season for the Red Sox. He is three strikeouts away from passing his single-season mark, which he set last season with the Chicago White Sox.Â
This is the most active Crochet in his six years in the league. He has already established himself as one of the most consistent pitchers in the AL East. Crochet is also making his case as one of the most elite pitchers in the AL.
Trevor Story Sets Special MarkÂ
Another player who had a stellar performance was shortstop Trevor Story. He had one of his most dominating performances of the season, and it was against their heated rival. Story was 3-of-5 at the plate, accounting for two runs with one being a home run, three hits, three RBIs, and no strikeouts.Â
Not only was this game one of the most impressive performances of his Boston Red Sox career, but it also signifies how efficient he has been this season. After the game, Story became the only player from the AL this season to account for over 20 home runs, one stolen base, and 80 RBIs.
Story is having his best season since 2021, when he was playing with the Colorado Rockies. It is also the healthiest that he has been since he last played for the Rockies. In 2022, Story played 93 games in his first season with the Red Sox. He combined to play only 69 games in the 2023 and 2024 seasons due to injury.
Story played eight games to start the 2024 season before being placed on the injured list for five months to repair a fractured bone in his shoulder. He would return for the Red Soxâs final 16 games of the regular season.Â
This season, Story has been healthy and at his most proficient on both sides of the field. He is a huge reason why the Red Sox are on their way to being a World Series contender that other playoff-caliber teams donât want to face.
