Miami Dolphins injured receiver Tyreek Hill’s offseason has been defined by his endeavors in a new sport: track. The self proclaimed “Cheetah” has long maintained that he is the fastest player in the National Football League, and after this offseason, it’s going to be hard to argue with him.
Hill is famously up to his neck in beef with the United States gold medalist, Noah Lyles. This beef was supposed to come to a head a few weeks ago, but Lyles had to cancel the duos race for personal reasons.
Hill made sure to keep it in the family Saturday afternoon when he competed against Lyles’ younger brother, Josephus Lyle, in an Austin, Texas track meet.
“The Dolphins’ star wideout showed up at the ATX Sprint Classic meet in Austin, Texas on June 28 to run in the 100-meter preliminary dash, in which he finished ahead of Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles’ younger brother, Josephus Lyles, with a personal-best time of 10.10 seconds,” reported John Leuzzi of USA Today. “Hill finished fourth among the seven-runner heat and 0.10 seconds behind Lawrence Johnson for first place.”
This finish was 0.05 seconds better than the time he posted in his first officially sanctioned track event in a decade earlier this month.
Hill Calls Out Famous Streamer IShowSpeed
IShowSpeed is an internet phenomenon, with over 40 million subscribers on YouTube. “Speed” has made headlines this Summer by challenging high profile celebrities to races.
Hill is yet to be a subject of one of Speeds call outs, but that didn’t stop the 31-year-old receiver from challenging the 20-year-old influencer to a race.
“Hey @ishowspeed,” Hill tweeted five days ago. “since @LylesNoah is ducking from me… I’m free to race you.”
The Cheetah continued antagonizing the young streamer in a video posted on his X account.
“Speed, once again you’re ducking me,” Hill taunted. “You live in Miami, I live in Miami, so I don’t know bro… Let’s get the race in, I’m your next opponent bruh. I’m your next opponent. Let’s get it bruh.”
Is It Possible That The 31-Year-Old Actually Gained A Step?
Hill is coming off arguably the worst season of his career. He finished under 1,000 yards for just the second time since his rookie season. The only other time he finished in triple digits was in 2019 when he missed more than a quarter of the season with an injury.
This sudden regression had some fans thinking the five time All Pro was over the hump. For a player whos trademark is his speed, father time is the ultimate enemy.
Last season’s uncharacteristic stat line was mostly credited to an injured wrist. He is currently recovering from multiple surgeries on the right wrist, and for that reason, much of his offseason he has been unable to catch footballs.
This is perhaps the reason why his focus has switched to track. There is no arguing that his speed has not faltered. His personal best this past weekend should pose as a promising sign for Dolphins’ fans and fantasy owners alike.
