After one of the most memorable runs leading his team to the NBA Finals, Tyrese Haliburton will not play this season for the Indiana Pacers after he tore his Achilles tendon in Game 7 of the Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
But along with his Achilles injury recovery, Haliburton recently announced a major move. According to NBA on Prime, the Pacers’ star will join their coverage of the NBA as a player correspondent.
“Prime Video today announced Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton will join NBA on Prime as a player contributor making select appearances throughout the 2025-26 season,” Amazon wrote in a press release. “Haliburton will make his debut tonight on NBA on Prime’s postgame show, NBA Nightcap, following the Emirates NBA Cup Quarterfinals doubleheader.”
This is Amazon Prime’s first season broadcasting NBA games. Kyle Lowry was the first player to join the company’s coverage, but Haliburton is the latest player to give his thoughts on the league while he continues to recover.
Haliburton Joins NBA On Prime
Per Amazon, along with appearing on NBA on Prime’s postgame show for the NBA Cup alongside Dirk Nowitzki, Dwyane Wade, Steve Nash, Udonis Haslem, and host Taylor Rooks, he will also document his recovery journey.
“As part of his role, Haliburton will document his recovery from an Achilles injury sustained during the NBA Finals through short video features, offering viewers an intimate look at the dedication and work required to return to elite performance,” Amazon added. “This content will be integrated into NBA on Prime coverage throughout the season.”
Haliburton has made a few posts on social media about his workouts and recovery from the Achilles injury, but he’ll now offer fans an insight as to what his day-to-day looks like.
In the same press release, the star point guard also offered his thoughts on his new role.
“I’m excited to join NBA on Prime and share my basketball knowledge in a different way with viewers around the world,” Haliburton said. “This is a great opportunity to give fans an inside look at what it takes to compete at the highest level, in a unique storytelling approach by partnering with an incredible platform like Amazon. The NBA on Prime team is doing something special, and I’m looking forward to helping bring fans closer to the game.”
Amazon has used other techniques and technology in their first season covering the NBA, and thought it was seen with Draymond Green with Inside the NBA on TNT, Prime adding current players to their game and league coverage could start a deeper trend.
Pacers Struggling Without Their Star
While Haliburton enters the broadcast space, he has been missed by the Pacers this year. A quarter of the way through the season, they are 6-18 and sit second to last in the Eastern Conference standings.
Indiana ranks 25th in net rating, 28th in offense rating, and 19th in defensive rating, while the team’s pace and points per possession have dropped significantly from last year.
Pascal Siakam and Benedict Mathurin are both having strong years, as each is averaging more than 21 points per game. Aaron Nesmith, Andrew Nembhard, and Obi Toppin have all been solid, and Jay Huff has been dominant in the paint, now leading the NBA in blocks.
Yet still, it’s been an uphill battle for the Pacers so far without their franchise star, and they’ll likely end up with a high lottery pick while they wait for Haliburton’s return.
