Tyrrell Hatton Hilariously Recalls ‘Messy’ Night Celebrating Ryder Cup Selection

It’s probably safe to assume that if Team Europe wins the Ryder Cup, the celebration is going to be legendary, perhaps with Tyrrell Hatton leading the charge … assuming he hasn’t learned his lesson.

The fiery Englishman will be part of the 12 Europeans looking to take down Team USA at Bethpage Black on Long Island, and it’s clear he’s excited to be back in the mix. Speaking ahead of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, Hatton told an incredible story about the night he found out he made the team.

“That was a messy night in the end,” Hatton recalled in a session with reporters that will go down as an all-timer.

Tyrrell Hatton’s ‘Messy’ Ryder Cup Celebration Cost Him in More Ways Than One

Hatton explained that he learned the news the same day that fellow LIV star and Legion XIII teammate Jon Rahm won the league’s individual championship. What followed was a night of debauchery. The drink menu, as far as Hatton can remember, included six glassess of wine at dinner, a double gin and tonic, a few Disaronno sours, some hazelnut sours, a margarita and, as Hatton called it, a “strawberry vodka thing.”

Hatton admits he fell asleep in a chair before finishing his final drink. But the real fun started when he returned to his room.

“When I did actually get back into the room, I fell across the bed sideways and was face-down in that position and then I’ve woken myself up throwing up in that position, and I’ve then fallen back asleep in the position,” he continued. “Then as I’ve woken up, I’ve got (vomit) all down my arms both sides, all down my shirt, I get off the bed walk into the bathroom and look into the mirror, I’m like, I’ve got (vomit) in my face, in my beard.”

It was so bad that Hatton had to call his wife for advice on how to clean up. Eventually, he called an audible.

“I was rushing to make the room somewhat acceptable before leaving, so yeah, I ended up stripping the bed and leaving some cash and a note saying I was really sorry, I was sick in the bed in the night, please throw it in the trash.”

As anyone’s who had one (or 10) too many in a given night, the next day was not kind to Hatton, despite miraculously making his flight. If Europe can win on American soil for the first time in a decade-plus at Bethpage Black, there will be some major partying, but Hatton hopes the hangover isn’t quite as bad this time around.

“I don’t ever want — I don’t want to get to that state again to be honest,” he admitted. ” … God, it was aggressive.”
