UFC legend Wanderlei Silva Knocked Out Cold in Massive Post-Fight Brawl

After weighing in 44 pounds heavier than his opponent, Acelino Frietas, for a boxing match tonight, UFC legend Wanderlei Silva was knocked out cold in a post-fight brawl.

After head-butting his opponent along the ropes, Silva was DQ’d.

Moments later, a massive brawl broke out between Frietas’ corner and Silva’s corner.

During the ensuing chaos, Silva was horrifically knocked out cold.

Verdict MMA shared a ringside angle of the knockout punch, reporting that Wanderlei was DQ’d for repeatedly head-butting his opponent.

 

The MMA community was quick to weigh in on what happened:

“During the UFC antitrust lawsuit, Wanderlei Silva submitted a letter saying “I fear that during my career I have suffered traumatic brain injury (TBI) and am noticing symptoms common with TBI and CTE” It’s absolutely despicable if anyone ever books him for another fight after.” – Damon Martin wrote

“How embarrassing to see Wanderlei Silva doing this shit at his old ass age Slept out cold in a post fight brawl by some random tuxedo wearing security guard 2 losses in one night.” – MMAGuru wrote

“Proving what several other names in MMA have always said Wanderley Silva was a coward, a fool, and a bad character. He was getting pummeled, played dirty, got disqualified, incited a widespread brawl, and took a humiliating knockout from a random guy.” – One wrote


 

Wanderlei Silva Weighed-In 40+ Pounds Heavier Than Opponent For Boxing Match

Prior to Saturday’s boxing match, Wandy weighed in 44-pounds heavier than his opponent, who stepped in on short notice after Silva’s original opponent, fellow UFC legend Vitor Belfort, was forced out of the fight.

Frites, who is an accomplished boxer that put together a 41-2 record throughout his career, winning WBA and WBO titles throughout his career, weighed in at just 162.7 pounds, while Silva came in at 206.7 pounds.

Prior to the weigh-in, Sherdog quoted Frietes as saying:

“Wanderlei is a guy I respect a lot outside the ring, but inside the ring, I have no respect for anyone. If it were in MMA, I wouldn’t last at all, that’s for sure. But just because it’s boxing, he is the one who will not last. After the fight, his name will be changed from ‘Mad Dog’ to ‘Dead dog.’”

Prior to Saturday’s fight, Frites had won five straight exhibition bouts, with three of those wins coming by first-round stoppage.


MMA Fighters React to Wanderlei Silva KO

In addition to fight fans reacting to Wanderlei Silva being knocked out, plenty of fighters took to social media to share their reactions.

Former UFC vet Derek Brunson wrote: “Just saw the video of Wanderlei Silva getting knocked out in a post-fight brawl, what was that all about !”

Terrance McKinney was simply is disbelief: “No way.”

MMAFighting also shared some reactions from fighters on Instagram.

Among them was notably Chael Sonnen, who was famously involved in a brawl with Silva on the set of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil.

Prior to Saturday’s fight, Silva hadn’t competed since 2018 when he was knocked out by Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the second round of their Bellator 206 fight.
