Underrated Bills Player is One Reason Josh Allen Can Shine

The Buffalo Bills have a slew of strong players on their roster, but quarterback Josh Allen usually gets most of the attention. That makes sense, since Allen is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and coming off a major MVP victory.

The Bills put a lot of pressure on Allen every season to deliver, but he’s not the only player on the field. There are some Bills players who don’t get the same level of attention but are really just as important. That same is true for any NFL franchise lucky enough to have a star quarterback who gets all the attention.

So, while Allen certainly deserves to get the spotlight on him, there are other players on the Bills’ squad that also should get some love. Now, in a piece published on Tuesday, August 12, Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone is naming the best non-quarterbacks for each team going into the 2025-26 season.

Josh Allen Gets Protected By Solid NFL Player

Left tackle Dion Dawkins has been doing a great job of protecting Allen on the field. The Buffalo Bills drafted Dawkins in the second round of the NFL draft in 2017, and he’s been solid. He’s earned four consecutive Pro Bowl honors and was even voted as No. 42 player overall on the NFL Top 100 Players tally.

In the NFL Spin Zone piece, Scataglia names Dawkins as the best non-quarterback player for the Bills.

“Dion Dawkins has been a high-end left tackle in the NFL for quite some time,” Scataglia explains. “He’s been protecting Josh Allen’s blindside for years now and is the Buffalo Bills’ best player not named Josh Allen.”

Its great to see Dawkins get this kind of respect, because he deserves it. Over the past several years, he’s proven to be a reliable force on the Bills’ roster.

Buffalo Bills’ Win-Loss Projection for 2025-26

Now, let’s get to winning games. In a feature published on Wednesday, August 13, for ESPN, the publication’s staff looks at each NFL team and predicts the win-loss record and X factor for each team.

In the piece, ESPN describes their methodology for determining the win-loss records and X factors for each team. “To look at the bigger picture and just how good — or bad — every team could be this season, we turned to our ESPN Football Power Index (FPI),” they explain.

For the Bills, the ceiling is 13-4, and the floor is 8-9. It would be horrible to see the Bills have an 8-9 season, and it likely won’t happen. So, what’s the X factor for the Buffalo Bills? It’s the defensive line.

“The Bills made it an emphasis in the offseason to invest in what they viewed as a clear issue, and that was the group up front on the defensive side of the ball, as they selected three linemen in the first four rounds of the 2025 draft,” Alaina Getzenberg states, adding that “more consistency is needed from the likes of Greg Rousseau on the outside and Ed Oliver on the inside for this group to take a step forward.”

Let’s hope Allen and company blow out these projections and even go higher than the predicted 13-4 ceiling.
