The Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears met face-to-face on Sunday, September 14, at Ford Field, and it was exactly the kind of game that those in the Motor City wanted to see. Bears head coach Ben Johnson, of course, left the Lions following the team’s loss to the Washington Commanders in the playoffs last season, so this meeting was personal. This was expected to be a close game, but it wasn’t, and the Detroit Lions beat the Chicago Bears in a 52-21 spread.
Following the game, Johnson wasn’t a happy camper. It’s understandable. The team that he’s expected to turn around fell hard to his former team, and the game really showed who’s boss. Johnson and the Bears didn’t even come close to beating the Lions, and it looked like teams from two different planets were on the field.
After the game, Johnson had a brief encounter with Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell, and they did the required handshake. It was very quick, though, and Johnson didn’t look like he wanted to linger and talk to Campbell. But, his postgame exchange with Lions quarterback Jared Goff was even worse.
Ben Johnson and Jared Goff Have Exchange After Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears
After the game, Goff rushed over to Johnson and tried to catch him before he left the field to shake his hand and say “hi.” But, Johnson did not seemed interested in seeing him at all. This is crazy footage. Check it out below.
In a video shared on X by Dov Kleiman on Tuesday, September 16, Kleiman notes, “Ben Johnson’s beef with the Lions is real. Jared Goff literally had to chase him down. He didn’t wait to say hi to anyone.”
“Yikes,” one commenter said. “Looks like the tension is real. Ben Johnson wasn’t messing around, and Jared Goff had to play catcher.” Another stated, “That beat down felt personal by the Lions.”
So, it totally makes sense that Johnson would be upset after that huge loss and not want to play nice with Campbell and Goff. But, this is the NFL, and these are supposed to be professional coaches and players that put their emotions aside and do the right thing after games. Somebody was going to lose this game. Johnson could have been mentally prepared for how he would react if he did lose, but he really just seemed upset and not even wanting to have that exchange with Campbell or Goff. Inside Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears
The Detroit Lions certainly had the big numbers on their side against the Chicago Bears. According to ESPN, Goff finished “with a near perfect passer rating (156.0) while throwing for 334 yards and five touchdowns” and “wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown caught three of the scores.” The Motor City has to be proud of these players.
While the Detroit Lions can rest well knowing they beat the Chicago Bears already once this season, they have a big challenge ahead. They’ll take on the Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, September 22. The Lions are underdogs in the game.
