Vikings Get Major Injury Updates to Key Personnel

The Minnesota Vikings came out with a victory on Sunday against the New York Giants.

It was a costly victory, however, as the Vikings lost Jordan Mason, Ryan Kelly and J.J. McCarthy during the game in that order. Additionally, Aaron Jones was sidelined early in the game with an irritated ankle, though he returned to the game mid-way through the second quarter.

The Vikings didn’t practice Monday, however, they did post a projected injury report.

Kevin Seifert had a report, where posted the news originally on X.

The Vikings posted their projected injury report on their web site this afternoon. If they had practiced, J.J. McCarthy (hand), Ryan Kelly (concussion), T.J. Hockenson (shoulder) and Jordan Mason (ankle) would not have participated.”

Here is a rundown of the Vikings’ projected injury report they released today:

  • TE T.J. Hockenson (shoulder) – did not practice
  • C Ryan Kelly (concussion) – did not practice
  • RB Jordan Mason (ankle) – did not practice
  • QB J.J. McCarthy (hand) – did not practice
  • T Brian O’Neill (heel) – did not practice
  • RB Aaron Jones (ankle) – limited participant
  • DL Javon Hargrave (thigh) – limited participant
  • LB Eric Wilson (thumb) – limited participant

TE Gavin Bartholomew, RB Ty Chandler, and LB Austin Keys were also on the report as well, and were designated as full participants.

This is quite the stacked report for a team on a short week, and the Vikings have a quick turnaround, which hurts the players that are banged up having a chance to play.

The Vikings lost numerous play makers to injury on Sunday. Our own Eduardo Razo had some coverage on the Ryan Kelly concussion:

Minnesota Vikings center Ryan Kelly has been ruled out with a concussion, according to The Athletic’s Alec Lewis. This latest concussion would mark the third concussion of the season for Kelly and the sixth documented concussion of his career.

Jordan Mason was carted off of the field early in the first quarter with an ankle injury, and there are no current updates to his status.

Ian Rapoport had an update to J.J. McCarthy, whom of which is getting an MRI on his hand:

From @GMFB: #Packers QB Jordan Love is in the concussion protocol, while Malik Willis also has a shoulder injury; #Vikings QB JJ McCarthy will have an MRI on his right hand“.

It’s seemingly unlikely that McCarthy will play on Thursday, however crazier things have happened. The Vikings are likely to update the public on McCarthy’s status on Tuesday, and we will be sure to provide coverage when that news comes.
