The Minnesota Vikings are focused on their own team and moving ahead in the 2025-26 with their new quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, who will be taking his first snaps in the NFL this season. So, with so much focus on what’s going on within, they shouldn’t really be concerned with the competition. But, it’s only human to look around and see what the Vikings’ rivals are doing during the offseason.
Well, Vikings followers may get a few smiles from seeing one of the team’s arch enemies having some difficulty early in camp. Not that we’re wishing ill on anyone, but it would sure make topping the NFC North easier if the other teams in the division aren’t at the top of their games.
Mainly, the struggles seem to be with the Chicago Bears‘ offense and their star quarterback Caleb Williams, who will be entering his second season in the NFL. There was lots of excitement about Williams heading into his rookie season, but the team still struggled, so the Bears are hoping for a turnaround in the 2025-26 season with new head coach Ben Johnson.
Minnesota Vikings Rival Isn’t Having the Best Early Camp
During an interview on Thursday, July 24, the Chicago Tribune’s Dan Wiederer chatted with 670 The Score, and Wiederer talked about some possible issues with Williams and his new coaching staff.
“I would say there is a push to make sure on a daily basis that he understands the commitment level that is required to reach the heights that both he and the team are trying to get to,” Wiederer said during the chat.
He went on to comment on the “maturity” of Williams, stating, “I think that’s a maturity process for a young quarterback, and it’s one that they are pushing Caleb to understand as quickly as possible, that you better understand when you go home from this building at night, that your first responsibility is preparing for the next day and understanding what’s coming from you the next day and being ready for what’s coming the next day and being in your playbook and getting all those little things down.”
More Issues with the Chicago Bears
Going back to the very first day of camp in the Windy City, the offensive squad had issues even lining up properly.
“The word ‘intense’ was used a lot this spring to describe practice and the shared mentality of Ben Johnson and his coaches,” Courtney Cronin of ESPN posted on X. “That carried over to Day 1 of training camp where the 1st team offense got thrown out of a drill by Johnson during a drill when they couldn’t get lined up properly. We saw that intensity on defense, too, when Dennis Allen had his players doing up-downs. Allen: ‘You have to pay the price. It’s a privilege to be in this defense.’”
So, is it time to pop the champaign bottle and get ready for the Bears to have yet another year of not being competition for the Vikings? Thinking that way has never won anybody games, but at least the Vikings can feel a little less nervous about the Bears, at least for now.
