Vikings’ Max Brosmer Gets Blunt Words Before Seahawks Game

Max Brosmer will be leading the Minnesota Vikings in Week 13 against the Seattle Seahawks on November 30. While the playoffs are looking like an afterthought for the 4-7 Vikings, it’s an opportunity for Brosmer to show he’s an NFL-caliber player.

J.J. McCarthy had limited practice this week after entering concussion protocol, and the team seems set on taking a cautious approach with their second-year quarterback.

With Brosmer ready to go, former Vikings linebacker Ben Leber had a key message for the 24-year-old signal-caller, who will be facing a challenging Seattle defense.

“My expectations are no turnovers,” Leber said on November 29. “That is the No. 1 thing, like, I just don’t want to see him throw the ball away. I know that Mike Macdonald is going to try to light him up. I think we all expect that there’s going to be some pressure. Let’s see how the young guy handles the pressure. I’m actually really excited to see him play.

“I think that we really like this very small sample size that we saw at the very, very beginning of the season, the preseason. You know, he gets the ball out quick. He is accurate. They applaud him for his cerebralness and how smart he is and how prepared he is. So my No. 1 thing is just take care of the football. Don’t turn it over.”

Vikings QB Max Brosmer Ready for His First NFL Start

Brosmer knows the challenge of facing the Seahawks defense, but he’s stepping into the moment with confidence. Speaking with reporters on November 28, he discussed his preparations for his first NFL start.

“I pride myself on being the most prepared guy on the field at all times,” Brosmer said (h/t Vikings.com). “That’s just something that I feel caters to my strengths. I was never the most athletic guy, never the strongest guy, but I felt like I could do it better with my mind on the field. And that’s playing NFL quarterback.”

Brosmer has stepped on the field a few times this season, though never to open a game. That raises the question of whether the early jitters might show up and throw off his throws. Still, anyone assuming the Vikings quarterback will look rattled is likely in for a surprise.

“I think it’s great to have nerves because that’s what locks you in. But the nervous piece comes with anxiousness, and that’s not me. And that’s not this team,” Brosmer said.

“You know, I think the nerves you grow up playing with from third and fourth grade, and you’re like, ‘I can’t wait for game day.’ Riding in the car with my mom to go play, you know, Saturday with the guys, with the kids, playing pee-wee football.”

T.J. Hockenson Doesn’t Hold Back on Max Brosmer

Despite this being Brosmer’s first start in the NFL, his teammates are backing him, and T.J. Hockenson was vocal about the starters’ confidence in the backup to get them a win and snap their three-game losing streak.

“We’ve got the utmost confidence in Max,” Hockenson said to the media on November 26. “Throughout training camp and the year, he’s mentally prepared himself to be ready to go.

“He has confidence in the huddle, and being out there and trying to be an option for him is really my job—to find space and get him into a role, in a rhythm of things. We have nothing but confidence in him and what he can do as a player. It’ll be a good opportunity for all of us.”
