Vikings Potentially Lose $10 Million Offensive Playmaker for Season

The Minnesota Vikings came out of Week 16 victorious. Their cross-country venture to MetLife stadium ended in a 16-13 victory.

The trip didn’t come without its hitches, however. It began with an emergency plane landing back in Minneapolis on Saturday night. They obviously eventually got to East Rutherford, but didn’t land until 10:46pm.

Minnesota also had a multitude on injuries on the field during the game. The biggest being another hand injury to J.J. McCarthy. You can get some coverage on that here. Additionally, they also had center Ryan Kelly leave the game to injury, a common theme for the veteran in 2025.

These later injuries hid another one that came early in the first quarter. That was the impairment to running back Jordan Mason.

Jordan Mason went down on Sunday at MetLife Field with an ankle injury. Nick Brinkerhoff of CBS Sports detailed the happening:

The running back was carted to the locker room in the first quarter and was initially listed as questionable to return.

Mason caught a pass from J.J. McCarthy for six yards with 11:35 to go. He took a hit after making the catch and remained down after the play.

He was later seen on a cart with a towel over his head, leaving Zavier Scott as the lone running back without any ailments early in this game.”

Breaking out the cart could’ve just been precaution. However, needed to be carted off of the field with an ankle injury is not a great omen.

Aaron Jones was also facing minor ailments all game long, displaying obvious signs of discomfort while running the ball. He did not have his usual shiftiness and burst later into the game. Jones spent some time on the sideline, though he returned to the game mid-way through the second quarter.

ESPN’s Kevin Seifert had more coverage on the injury to Mason:

Mason, the Vikings’ leading rusher this season, suffered the injury during the team’s opening drive of the game. He was on the field because starter Aaron Jones Sr. had departed with his own ankle injury on his first carry. Mason carried twice for 5 yards on the drive, and the injury occurred at the end of a 6-yard reception.

With both Jones and Mason in the medical tent, the Vikings used third-string running back Zavier Scott before Jones returned in the second quarter.”

The injury to Mason could lead to an increased role for Zavier Scott. They also may have Ty Chandler returning soon.
