Vikings QB Carson Wentz Gets Brutal Take After Loss to Chargers

The Minnesota Vikings endured a rough night on October 23, falling 37-10 to the Los Angeles Chargers on “Thursday Night Football” at SoFi Stadium.

There was nothing to take away from this one for Minnesota, as the team now faces the task of analyzing what went wrong and moving on from the lopsided loss. After starting the 2025 NFL season at 3-2, the Vikings have dropped two straight games, slipping to 3-4.

Moreover, after a promising start under center, taking over for the injured J.J. McCarthy, veteran signal caller Carson Wentz has struggled in his last two games, recording one touchdown and three interceptions.

Amid these struggles, McCarthy appears to be healthy and ready to return for Week 9, and NBC Sports’ Mike Florio states that Wentz shouldn’t be starting anymore for Minnesota.

“In his first start, the Vikings won 48-10 over the Bengals,” Florio said on the October 24 edition of “Pro Football Talk.” “In what will be his last start, the Vikings lost 37-10. And I think it should be his last start. I think that if it doesn’t work with J.J. McCarthy, they just need to see what Max Brosmer can do. No more Carson Wentz. Not after [Thursday] night.”

Mike Florio Calls Out Carson Wentz Over Dramatics

Additionally, Florio questioned Wentz’s decision to stay in the game despite visible pain and distress.

“I don’t know how to process all the different images of Carson Wentz wincing and grimacing in pain because he kept playing, Florio added. “He would process the pain quickly. Like when you stub your toe, it hurts like hell for a little bit and then you’re okay. He was constantly grabbing at the left arm. He was constantly expressing that extreme distress and then he’d be right back in the game.

“At some point, the coaching staff, I think, needed to take him out, but at some point it’s a little like the old Ben Roethlisberger or dramatics. Like, is it real? Like, at some point, you just got to stop playing. If it’s that bad, you just got to stop playing because once he’s on the sideline, it’s done. The pain was going away like that.”

Can the Vikings Turn Their Situation Around?

Despite falling below .500, Wentz is confident the group will bounce back heading into their game against NFC North rival, the Detroit Lions.

“I just know the guys in that locker room, Wentz told reporters postgame. “I know the guys; I know the coaches; I’ve still only been here for a short period of time, but I know the resolve, the resiliency, and the character of the guys in there. That gives me confidence. I know coach being the leader in this building is as positive as it gets, and I know he’ll do everything he can in his power to get us right.

“I have a lot of confidence in the guys. Hopefully, we can keep getting some guys back healthy, all that stuff. This was a short week. This was a tough one. We just didn’t have it tonight. The NFL is weird. It’s hard to win, hard to be consistent. So at the end of the day, just turn the page and go attack it next week.”
