Manchester United are on the brink of agreeing a deal with Sporting CP for Viktor Gyokeres, desperate to bring him to Old Trafford if his proposed move to Arsenal falls through.
The Gunners have identified the Sweden international as their leading transfer target up front and have made huge progress in getting a deal over the line in recent weeks.
Agreeing personal terms has not been a problem with Gyokeres eager to join Mikel Arteta’s side and play in the Champions League next season.
But Arsenal are still to agree a fee with Sporting who are standing firm on add-on payments, refusing to be bullied into any deal.
Reports in Portugal this weekend have claimed the proposed move is now in real jeopardy with Gyokeres’ father convinced it is going to fall through.

That uncertainty has invited United forward to make one last play to sign the striker who previously starred under Amorim in the Portuguese capital during their time together at Sporting.
News agency SIC Noticias report United are negotiating an offer with a higher value than the one currently being proposed by Arsenal – €63.5 million (£54.9m) up front, plus a further €10m (£8.6m) in bonuses.

United have promised a deal worth €80million with Record reporting an agreement between the Premier League side and Sporting is very close to being agreed.
However, Gyokeres has his heart set on a move to Arsenal and only wants to play for the Gunners next season.
United, who have no European football on offer nest season, have already seen three approaches turned away for Gyokeres with a fourth attempt likely to be unsuccessful again.
United have signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves this summer and are on the brink of bringing in Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford after a third offer was accepted this week.

Signing another centre forward is United’s next priority. The club have already missed out on two targets this summer with Liam Delap rejecting them for Chelsea.
Hugo Ekitike is also understood to have turned down a move to Old Trafford having agreed personal terms with Liverpool.
Ollie Watkins and Randal Kolo Muani are two other options under consideration.
