Warriors Add Guard to Help Stephen Curry in Bold Trade Proposal

The Golden State Warriors are trying to figure out a way to compete in a very competitive Western Conference. Right now, they sit eighth in the Western Conference standings. Stephen Curry has returned from his quad injury, as well.

Right now, the Warriors would have to compete in the Play-In if the regular season ended right now. Golden State is exploring some options to possibly trade for prior to the trade deadline. Adding the right player as Steph Curry hits his twilight is key for their title chances.

A bold trade idea from Bleacher Report has the Warriors adding some offensive help for Curry and Jimmy Butler while trading away one of their problem players.

Warriors Add Guard Help, Trade Away Problem Player in Bold Trade Idea

Here is the full trade proposal:

CJ McCollum to the Golden State Warriors for Jonathan Kuminga, Buddy Hield, and a 2030 second-round pick.

McCollum is toiling away with the Washington Wizards, wasting the latter part of his career. The Wizards have the worst record in the NBA. Adding McCollum would give the Warriors another ball-handler, even if they end up bringing him off the bench.

Kuminga has once again fallen out of favor with head coach Steve Kerr. The Warriors signed him in restricted free agency with the understanding that they would try to find a new home for him. While this might not be the home Kuminga had in mind, it would give him a chance to shoot more.

Losing Buddy Hield isn’t a massive loss at this point in his career. He’s more of a locker room guy than he is an actual solid player. McCollum’s scoring would help make up for Hield’s ability to make 3s. This would also give them another veteran player who has played in big games.

Golden State Will Keep Looking at Trade Options

Even if the Warriors opt not to make a trade for someone like McCollum, they will continue to canvass the league. Right now, Golden State has the 10th-worst offense in basketball. That’s not something that the Warriors are used to in the Curry era.

If the Warriors want to have any shot of making the playoffs and winning some postseason series, they have to get some players who are going to improve the offense. Curry and Butler can only do so much to keep this team afloat, although the first portion of their schedule has been brutal.

The hope is that with more home games and a less condensed schedule, the Warriors can turn things around and start playing better basketball. Finding a player or two that can help improve the offense is going to be the top priority for Mike Dunleavy Jr.

Curry continues to be one of the most electric players in the league. He has his highest offensive rating in the past six seasons with the team.
