Warriors’ Draymond Green Shares Concerning Injury Update

The Golden State Warriors were dealt another injury blow on Thursday against the Philadelphia 76ers after Draymond Green suffered a foot injury. Green joined fellow stars Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler on the sidelines.

Speaking to reporters after the game, the former Defensive Player of the Year shared a concerning update on his injury. He underwent an MRI and was in a walking boot leaving the arena.

Green will try to see how it responds to treatment before the Warriors’ next game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday, as reported by NBA journalist Nick Friedell.

According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Green suffered the injury in the second quarter after Dominick Barlow landed on his right foot. He already had a minor problem with the same foot after Portland Trail Blazers big man Donovan Clingan landed on it last November 21.

While Green wants to play through the injury, the Warriors are likely going to be cautious, especially due to his age and how banged up the team is.

Steve Kerr comments on Green’s injury

Draymond Green missed a game on November 24 against the Utah Jazz due to a right foot sprain. Green quickly recovered and played the next four games before going down again in Philadelphia.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr was asked by reporters in his postgame press conference regarding an update on Green. Kerr hasn’t spoken to the player, but they will check how he feels before the Cleveland game. He also talked about Green’s conditioning coming into the season.

“He looks good, he looks lean, he’s felt good. I don’t know if what happened tonight is related to what happened in the other night. We’ll, obviously, be very careful with him and we’ll see how he’s doing in Cleveland,” Kerr said.

The Warriors are already without Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler because of a quad contusion and a knee injury, respectively. They are in a precarious position in the West at 11-12, more than a quarter of the way into the campaign.

Green Key to Giannis Trade

ESPN insiders went through five possible trade scenarios for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. One of the five teams was the Golden State Warriors, and Draymond Green was a key piece to possibly bring “The Greek Freak” to the Bay Area.

Here’s the trade proposal by Zach Kram:

Warriors receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo and Thanasis Antetokounmpo

Bucks receive: Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Buddy Hield and four first-round picks.

“Milwaukee could give Kuminga plenty of runway to see if he’s a long-term keeper and reroute Green — a proven winner and still elite defender — to a contender and extract the maximal pick package from Golden State, hoping that some of those outlying picks could be extremely lucrative once Stephen Curry retires,” Kram wrote.

The ESPN insider did acknowledge that this trade is a “Hail Mary” for both teams, especially for the Warriors. The Bucks are likely getting better offers from other teams, though Antetokounmpo could end up having a say in where he wants to go.
