Warriors Favorites To Land 10x All-Star Champion In Trade Rumors

The Golden State Warriors so far aren’t having the start to the season they’d hoped for, despite franchise star Stephen Curry continuing to prove himself as one of the best players of this generation.

But as the Warriors hope to take advantage of the time they have left with Curry, they are reportedly in the market to add another star to make one more title push. As of now, that star is Anthony Davis of the Dallas Mavericks, and right now, Golden State is the odds-on favorite to be the next home for the ten-time All-Star and 2020 NBA champion.

According to Evan Sidery of Forbes, the Warriors are favored over the Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, and Toronto Raptors to land Davis in a trade, based on odds on Kalshi Sports.

Davis is currently sidelined with a groin injury suffered in the Mavericks’ Christmas Day game against the Warriors, and according to Shams Charania, he is expected to miss ‘a few games.’

Warriors Favorites To Land Anthony Davis

Golden State is a top candidate to land another big star, which isn’t super surprising, considering their middling start to the year and some of the assets they’d be able to offer up for Dallas. The Bay Area team has been linked to Davis for some time now after the Mavericks fired general manager Nico Harrison and look to take a different direction led by rookie Cooper Flagg.

However, even though the Warriors are favored and have reported interest in a Davis trade, it could all come down to what they would send back for the big man.

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, the Mavericks are looking to get back several young players in exchange for the five-time All-NBA honoree. That report was based on a potential Davis trade with the Hawks, yet still, it’s fair to assume that would be the same case with Golden State.

“I was told the Warriors are contemplating making a case to acquire Anthony Davis,” Haynes said. They’re looking for a big man, a rim-running big who can protect the paint and be a lob threat.”

Golden State did make the offseason addition of Al Horford, but so far, he hasn’t been as advertised, missing a massive amount of time through 31 games, putting up career-low stats in the process. Draymond Green has also been on the downturn, and though Quinten Post has been solid in a limited role, adding a player like a healthy Davis would drastically change what the Warriors can do on both sides of the court.

In 16 games this season for the Mavericks, the 32-year-old Davis is averaging 20.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.6 blocks per night on 52.8% shooting, however, the injury concerns have by no means quieted.

Steve Kerr On A Potential Klay Thompson Trade, Reunion

At the same time that the Warriors have reported interest in one Dallas star, they also have eyes for another one of their players. Klay Thompson has shown interest in rejoining Golden State after his year and a half with the Mavericks, the team he joined after a somewhat messy breakup with the franchise he won four titles with.

Ramona Shelbourne was the first to report the news, and in the days after, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr commented on a potential reunion with the league’s second all-time leading three-point shooter.

“I’ll never get used to seeing Klay (Thompson) on the other side,Kerr said after his team’s Christmas win over the Mavericks.I miss Klay. Wish he was still here.”

Both Thompson and Curry shared a moment during pregame warmups, reminding Warriors fans of the extreme success shared by the duo during the mid-2010s and early 2020s. Thompson is at a very different point in his career compared to his prime years, as he’s come off the bench for Dallas recently. However, with two years left on the $50 million deal he signed with the Mavericks in 2024, making a trade for him could come a lot easier than one for Davis.

The core group of Curry, Thompson, Green, and Kerr oversaw one of the most successful dynasties in NBA history, and though the Warriors are missing theirNo. 11′, a reunion could be in the cards.
