Warriors Unsure of Stephen Curry’s Status After ‘Brutal’ Loss

It was a classic Warriors loss in what has been a decidedly frustrating 2025-26 season to date. Stephen Curry had 39 points and the Warriors had control of the action over the Raptors, with a 12-point lead late in the third quarter, until the usual suspects–rebounding and turnovers–cropped up and cost Golden State the lead and, ultimately, a 141-127 decision in overtime.

Al Horford‘s 3-pointer with 1:45 to go in the third put the Dubs up, 100-88, but the team closed the period with four straight turnovers and a missed 3-pointer, giving the Raptors eight unanswered points and a whole lot of momentum in the fourth. In the end, the Warriors committed 20 turnovers and gave up 35 points on those turnovers.

Oh, and they were outrebounded, 55-42, for good measure.

Stephen Curry Not Sure About Playing vs. Nets

That helped end a three-game winning streak and, worse, forced coach Steve Kerr to extend the minutes of Curry in the game, to 41. With the second half of a back-to-back coming Monday night in Brooklyn, that leaves Curry’s status in some doubt.

Curry was asked a two-parter after the game, first about how he was feeling and second, about playing on Monday. “I am feeling great,” he said. “I don’t know how to answer the second part yet.”

That’s what makes the Raptors loss a double-whammy. Coach Steve Kerr did not expressly say so, but the plan likely was to use the Warriors’ top starters and try to get the win in Toronto, then rest them against the Nets in the second half of the back-to-back. Brooklyn is 10-19 this season–though the Nets have won three straight.

The Dubs may need Curry to play. Kerr said he now expects Curry to play.

“I expect him to, but it is a tough one,” Kerr said, looking at the team’s minutes. “Jimmy (Butler) 37, Dray (Green) 33, with the back-to-back. Yeah, brutal loss. Brutal loss. But we gotta bounce back.”

Stephen Curry: Warriors Turnovers ‘Not Going to Cut It’

There was a time, of course, when the Warriors could turn the ball over 20 times and still win easily, when they were an offensive machine capable of clamping down on defense. Those days are past–this team does not have the margin that the old Warriors teams had.

“We win as a team, we lose as a team. The idea of securing possessions, getting a shot up at the rim, we all have to figure out how to do that—20 turnovers is not going to cut it,” Curry said. “They got 14 extra shot attempts, it’s hard to win those types of games no matter how well you play.

Warriors Rank 28th in the NBA in Turnovers

Kerr took the blame for the Warriors’ lack of purpose at the end of the third quarter and heading into the fourth quarter. It’s nothing new–the Warriors average 16.2 turnovers per game, 28th in the NBA, and 22nd in the league in rebounding margin.

“Turnovers, end of the third, into the fourth, we just got scattered,” Kerr said. “I’ve got to get us better organized in those stretches, that’s on me. They turned up the pressure, we didn’t handle it well and they scored 35 points off our turnovers.”

And just like that, the three-game win streak is gone.

“It sucks,” Kerr said. “We’re on a little bit of a run, we have got a chance for some momentum, we controlled the whole game and we let it slip.”
