Former Tampa Bay Lightning forward and NHL player Nick Tarnasky was allegedly involved in a golf fight that has gone viral.
Tarnasky played in the NHL and the AHL from 2004 until 2017 and was an enforcer who wasn’t afraid to fight. Although he’s no longer playing competitive hockey and getting into fights on the ice, he is now getting into fights on the golf course.
While on the golf course, someone started chirping at Tarnasky, and he wasn’t having it. He threw the other golfer into the pond and then got into a fight with him, landing heavy shots and all being captured on video.
Tarnasky was landing ‘BANG’ when he was landing punches, as he clearly won the fight before the two had to be separated.
The fight started due to Tarnasky’s group wanting to play ahead of the golfer, who appears to be drunk, as he was playing slowly. He didn’t seem to like what Tarnasky’s group was saying and egged on the former NHL enforcer to fight him.
In his NHL career, Tarnasky has over 100 career fights, according to hockeyfights.com. He skated in 245 NHL games in his career. He recorded 13 goals and 17 assists for 20 points, along with 297 penalty minutes.
Tarnasky was drafted in the ninth round in the 2003 NHL Draft by the Lightning. He also played for the Florida Panthers in the NHL.
Tarnasky has yet to comment on the alleged incident.
Tarnasky & Group Defended Actions in Video
Throughout the altercation, you could hear Tarnasky and other people in the video speak.
After Tarnasky, a former Lightning forward, threw the golfer into the pond, before the fight started, he seemingly defended his actions.
“He just (expletive) came at me,” Tarnasky said in the video.
After Tarnasky appeared to beat up the man, he told the golfer enough and to stop trying to fight him.
“Enough, get out. Enough. Get him the (expletive) out of here. I asked him to (expletive) get moving, I said stop looking like an idiot,” the former Lightning player added.
Before the fight started, the cameraman told the drunk person to get off the golf course as they were being rude and taking too long.
“You guys need to get off the golf course. Pack up, go now. Get in the cart and go,” the cameraman said.
It’s unclear when or at what golf course this fight happened.
Lightning GM Happy With Roster
As for the Lightning, Tampa Bay has had a rather quiet offseason.
The Lightning did sign Pontus Holmberg and Jakob Pelletier as their main free agent moves. Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois believes the team is better now than last season, but is still looking to add more talent to the roster.
“We will remain on the lookout between now and the start of the season, between now and the trade deadline. It’s (cap space) a luxury we haven’t had in the past,” BriseBois said. “It might also mean we can carry more players and there’s more internal competition for ice time, which is also healthy, but I don’t expect us to be very active.”
Tampa Bay has just under $1.2 million in cap space.
