Novorizontino went on to win the second division clash 2-1 on June 24.

However, footage of their opener has now gone viral on social media.

Sport defender Alisson Cassiano was the unlucky player to put the ball into his own net for the home side.

Following kick-off, Sport passed the ball around their defence as Novorizontino applied pressure to their hosts.

As a forward closed him down, Cassiano turned to pass the ball back to goalkeeper Caique Franca.

The keeper had moved to the edge of his box, though, leaving him out of reach of the pass.

Both players were forced to look at each other in despair as Cassiano’s pass rolled into an empty net.

Fans were left stunned by the goal on X, but were split on whether to blame Cassiano or Franca.
