WATCH: Ronald Acuna Jr. tags Mets for massive HR, first of the season


Atlanta Braves outfielder and potential NL MVP candidate Ronald Acuna Jr. has been off to a slow start thus far this season. The reigning National League Rookie of the Year entered Saturday’s game against the rival New York Mets hitting .152 without an RBI in eight games. He’s also struck out a league-high 17 times in just 33 at-bats.

Needless to say, Atlanta needs Acuna to find a way out of this slump. After driving in his first run of the season with a double in the second inning, the star outfielder finally hit his first homer of the season.

It came off Mets reliever Franklyn Kilome in the sixth inning to give Atlanta a 7-1 lead. It was also an absolute blast.

Whew. That thing traveled 415 feet and left the field with an exit velocity of 114 miles-per-hour. Heck, the bleacher seats didn’t want a part of this.

Atlanta is considered one of the top contenders in the National League during this truncated 60-game regular season. Boasting a 5-3 record heading into Saturday’s game, the team is doing its part. Acuna now needs to do his. If this homer is any indication, he’s more than ready to step up.
