Rooney, 38, proved that he still had plenty of ability left as he whipped in a beautiful goal from a free-kick.
The now Plymouth manager curled his effort from 25 yards into the top left corner.
Fans were full of praise for the retired striker with plenty of them wanting him back in the team.
One posted: “That’s how you do it, I’ve never seen Bruno Fernandes score one before.”
A second wrote: “None of our players has scored a free kick goal since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2022 against Norwich. Shameless.”
A third commented: “Free agent, by the way, he never lost it.”
A fourth said: “Retired Rooney scores a free kick before Mbappe.”
Another added: “Aging like fine wine. Best English player ever.”

He joined the club in 2004 from Everton and then rejoined the Toffees in 2017.

Earlier in the day, Rooney had admitted that he would have liked to have played for Celtic during his career.
He told Celtic’s club media: “Celtic has always been a team I have followed and wanted to win.
“Unfortunately, I did not get the opportunity to play for Celtic. I would have liked too.
“But I did not work out and I did not get that chance.”
