Manchester United’s summer signings have started to make a real impression and club legend Wayne Rooney feels one stands out above the rest.

The Red Devils spent big over the transfer window, bringing in an entirely new front line and anointing a new first choice goalkeeper.

It was a sticky start to the new campaign as Ruben Amorim’s woes of last season showed little sign of easing.

However, things have picked up very encouragingly at Old Trafford, with three Premier League wins on the spin, including a rousing 4-2 victory over Brighton on Saturday.

That came after Manchester United had downed Sunderland at Old Trafford and then gone to Anfield and come away with three points.

A standout performer of this run has been Bryan Mbeumo, who scored the opening goal at Liverpool and then netted twice against the Seagulls at the weekend.

The Cameroon international arrived from Brentford over the summer for an initial fee of £65m and Rooney reckons he is proving to be the best of Manchester United’s transfer business.

‘Mbeumo has been consistent with his performances, I think that’s the main thing,’ the former forward said on The Wayne Rooney Show.

‘If you’re consistently getting in the right positions, getting chances, you will score. When you’re a forward and you score goals, you enjoy scoring goals and that feeling keeps going.

‘His confidence is very high at the minute. Hopefully that continues because he’s certainly been the best signing for United this season.’

With five goals in his first 10 Manchester United games, it is not surprising Rooney has picked out the former Bees man, but there is competition for best summer signing from the Red Devils.

Matheus Cunha scored his first goal for the club against Brighton and has been turning in some good performances, while Benjamin Sesko has started to settle in after scoring his first two goals in a Manchester United shirt.

Goalkeeper Senne Lammens has also earned a lot of praise, with the 23-year-old’s three Premier League appearances being the latest three victories.

Bruno Fernandes rates the new arrivals

Red Devils captain Bruno Fernandes has hailed all four big signings, pointing out they have the personalities to shine at the club.

‘I think at this club, every time I spoke with anyone who was talking with me, they were asking we need to sign good players and everything else,’ Fernandes said.

‘We need to sign big characters, not good players because at this club, being good players sometimes is not enough because of the pressure, because of the attention we get and everything. I think we brought in players that are very aware of the dimension of the club.

‘Cunha has that good arrogance to do the good things and the right things, so that’s something good.

‘Bryan, also the same. He’s not afraid to take the ball, to do his play, to do his things. We brought two players who were aware of the Premier League, also.

‘And then we brought a very young goalkeeper and a centre-forward, they hit the ground flying. Obviously, we know Ben (Sesko) will be judged by scoring goals or not. But a part of that, he’s been doing great, whatever he’s being asked to do. He’s got his goals already, and I think now it’s going to come more and more because he’s more than capable of scoring goals.

‘Senne came probably with the intention of being the number one. He had to wait for his moment. The moment came and he was ready for that. So this is what this club is about. You come, the moment will be there straightaway and you have to take it.’
