Wayne Rooney suffers huge blow just days after returning from Euro 2024 as Plymouth’s star man snubs new contract

PLYMOUTH ARGYLE star Michael Cooper has reportedly snubbed a new contract at Home Park, in a huge blow to new boss Wayne Rooney.

The goalkeeper, 24, has one year remaining on his deal with the Pilgrims.

A two-time club Player of the Year, Cooper was offered a deal that would have made him Argyle’s highest-paid player ever.

But according to Plymouth Live, Cooper has turned the deal down.

Rather than allow their goalkeeper to run his deal down, Argyle will now look to sell him in order to recoup as much value as they can.

Cooper debuted for the Pilgrims as a 17-year-old in 2017.

He has gone on to play 161 times for his boyhood club, helping them earn promotions from League Two and League One.

The highly-rated stopper has suffered from several injuries in recent seasons.

During a match against Sheffield Wednesday in February 2023, he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The issue ruled him out for nine months, before he eventually returned for a clash with West Brom in October, keeping a clean sheet.

After just nine games back he endured a ligament injury in his other knee in training, which kept him sidelined for a further 10 weeks.

He made a total of 19 Championship appearances last term, as the Pilgrims stayed up on the final day.
