In the last decade or so, Shane Lowry has turned himself into one of the best golfers in the world and is a Ryder Cup stalwart for Team Europe. Almost all of that success has come with his wife, Wendy Honner, right by his side.
Wendy was there with Lowry when he won The Open Championship, and she has traveled with him around the world to watch him play, including to New York for the 2025 Ryder Cup. That trip to the Empire State was a homecoming of sorts for the Mr. and Mrs. Lowry.
Here are five fast facts about Wendy Honner, Shane Lowry’s wife.
1. She’s the real hero in the family
Wendy is a former nurse. She used to work at a children’s hospital in Dublin, and after Lowry won The Open in 2019, the couple visited the hospital — with a guest in hand. Lowry brought along the Claret Jug to his wife’s former office.
“We want to say a huge thank you to both Shane and Wendy for taking time out of their extremely busy schedule to put smiles on the faces of the Temple Street family a nurse,” a hospital spokesperson told The Irish Sun.
Wendy hung up the scrubs in 2016.
2. They married in 2016 — in New York
The Lowrys didn’t have some sort of extravagant wedding on Ireland — or anywhere else. In fact, it’s a bit ironic that they tied the knot in New York, where Lowry ended up being the subject of verbal jousts from Long Island sports fans during the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.
As Lowry described it to the Belfast Telegraph, the two had a “very chilled” wedding reception in New York City in 2016. The Lowrys have said New York has a special place in their heart.
3. The Lowrys have two daughters
The couple have two daughters: Iris, born in 2017, and Ivy, born in 2021. The family now live in Florida, but they also have another home in Ireland that allows them to return to Lowry’s home country, in part so that the girls can enjoy summer in Ireland. The entire family was with Lowry at the 2025 Masters where Wendy and the girls served as a crew of caddies for Lowry in the Par 3 contest.
Iris was also on hand at Royal Portrush to watch her dad win The Open, where she and Wendy celebrated on the 18th green.
4. She’s got a great sense of humor
When you’re married to someone like Lowry who has a sharp wit (and an occasionally hot temper), a sense of humor is a necessity. Wendy certainly has that, as evidenced by her social media presence on which she’s more than willing to needle her husband — especially his ridiculous golf tanlines.
5. She’s not a bad golfer herself
It’s unclear just how long Wendy has been playing golf, but based on her Instagram page, she has a pretty good move herself.
