What to Know About Miami Marlins Draft Pick Aiva Arquette

With the No. 7 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, the Miami Marlins selected Aiva Arquette. Here are a few things to know about the newest member of the Marlins organization:

From Seattle to Corvallis: A Rising Star’s Journey

At 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, Arquette doesn’t look like your typical shortstop — and that’s exactly what makes him so intriguing. He started his college career at the University of Washington Huskies in 2023, and over two seasons with the Huskies, he transformed from a high-ceiling freshman to a polished veteran. After playing just 15 games in 2023, slashing .244/.393/.578 with five homers, he exploded onto the scene in 2024. That sophomore campaign featured a .325 average, 12 home runs, and a .958 OPS, earning him All‑Pac‑12 and Pac‑12 All‑Defensive honors at second base. Seeking a bigger stage, Arquette entered the transfer portal and landed at Oregon State for his junior season, where he started all 65 games at shortstop.

Power, Plate Discipline & Consistency

At Oregon State, Arquette didn’t just maintain his momentum — he turned it up. This spring, he hit .354 with 19 home runs, 66 RBIs, 73 runs, and 39 walks in 65 games. His power is real — he routinely barrels balls near the 110 mph exit-velocity mark — yet he pairs it with composure: more walks, fewer swings-and-misses, more line drives. Scouts have praised his ability to tap into both pull-side thunder and gap power, while also maintaining high contact rates.

Defensive Versatility & Arm Strength

Arquette’s play up the middle offers real appeal. He handled second base for Washington and picked up shortstop duties at Oregon State. Standing tall at 6‑4 with a strong arm, he shows smooth actions, soft hands, and enough agility that some scouts suggest he could stay on the left side. Others envision a move to third base, where his size and arm strength could be game-changers.

Big-Stage Performer with a Team-First Attitude

Arquette’s breakout didn’t happen by accident. Coaches describe him as a grinder, someone who locked in when it mattered most — especially in the NCAA tournament run with Oregon State. He brought poise in big moments and a mature approach in the dugout. His path — Hawaii → Washington → Cape Cod → Oregon State — shows an athlete betting on himself and winning that bet every time

Bottom Line

Aiva Arquette may not be the flashiest athlete in the class, but he’s one of the most complete. He brings premium size, above-average power, refined plate discipline, and real defensive upside — a package that checks a lot of boxes. Whether he remains at short, shifts to third base, or gives a team infield positional flexibility, his bat and presence are sure to make him a cornerstone of any minor league system — and potentially a middle-of-the-order contributor at the next level.
