Real Madrid’s El Clasico victory against Barcelona predictably ended with a brawl between the players, with Lamine Yamal at the centre of it.

Jude Bellingham scored the winner in a 2-1 thriller at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday, a match that also saw Kylian Mbappe miss a penalty and Pedri sent off in the final seconds.

As is so often the case, the arch-rivals clashed during and after the game, with Barcelona wonderkid Yamal the main target for Real following comments he made ahead of one of football’s biggest derbies.

Speaking on a YouTube channel recently, the 18-year-old said of Los Blancos: ‘They rob [a reference to refereeing decisions], they complain, they do things.’

As seen in fan footage, upon the full-whistle, Real captain Dani Carvajal immediately confronted Yamal, mimicking a mouth with his hand and reportedly telling his Spain teammate: ‘You speak too much. Speak now.’

The teenager attempted to approach the defender but was held back by Real star Eduardo Camavinga, sparking a shoving match between the teams, with Marcus Rashford among those trying to diffuse the conflict.

Vinicius Junior, already fuming after being subbed off earlier in the game, then exchanged words with Yamal as he was being escorted off the pitch, before the Brazil forward suddenly lunged at his rival, with security desperately keeping the pair apart.

While what was said in this moment is unclear, it is reported that during the match that Vinicius was heard teasing the Ballon d’Or runner-up, saying: ‘You only pass backwards.’

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong was left unimpressed with Carvajal’s actions, blaming him fully for the brawl that broke out.

‘If Carvajal wanted to speak to Lamine, he could do so in private,’ the Dutch international told reporters after the game.

‘If he thinks he shouldn’t do things like [make those comments], he could call him. They’re teammates [with Spain], they know each other. Why do you have to make a scene on the pitch?’

De Jong also defended his teammate for the comments he made, adding: ‘Lamine didn’t say that they rob, not directly. I have not heard Lamine saying exactly that.

‘I can understand Madrid’s players, but the reaction was exaggerated.’
