While the footballing world is currently fixated on Euro 2024 in Germany, many Premier League fans will also have their eyes peeled for the imminent release of next season’s fixtures.

Each side’s 38-game schedule will soon be released, with opening-day fixtures, derby days and the traditional Boxing Day programme likely to attract plenty of attention.

Manchester City will enter the season as the defending champions after Pep Guardiola’s side won the title for a historic fourth successive season.

There will be instant returns to the top-flight for Leicester City and Southampton, while Ipswich Town will feature in the Premier League for the first time in 22 years.

Here’s everything you need to know.

What time are the Premier League fixtures announced?

The fixtures for the 2024/25 season will be released at 9am BST on Tuesday 18 June, with this season set to be made up of 33 weekends, four midweek rounds of matches and one Bank Holiday Matchweek.

The season will get underway on 17 August, while the final day is set for 25 May as all ten matches kick off simultaneously, as has become tradition.

One major change from last season is the scrapping of the mid-season break. This was done in consultation with clubs who preferred a longer summer break.

How are the Premier League fixtures decided?

Once the teams are confirmed, each club is placed in a pairing grid, which defines the dates they will be at home.

A computer will then randomly generate fixtures, ensuring that in any five matches, there is a split of three home fixtures, two away or the other way around.

The computer is programmed to try and minimise travel on key dates such as Boxing Day or New Year’s Day, while it also takes into account local derbies to ensure that both club rivals don’t both play at home at the same time.
