Where Did Yankees’ Cody Bellinger Rank Among MLB Network’s Top Left Fielders? Is He Being Disrespected?

Left field is a pretty strong position across MLB. There are several stars on many different teams who are strong candidates for being on the MLB Network’s ‘Top 10 Left Fielders’ right now list, but with there only being 10 spots, it makes for an interesting conversation about what MLB Network’s ‘The Shredder’ thinks about the current state of every position by using advanced metrics.

During this lead-up to MLB spring training, MLB Network releases its annual ‘Top 10 right now’ for every position, and on Tuesday, left field was the position in question. Where did the New York Yankees‘ newly-signed outfielder Cody Bellinger end up on the current list?

Cody Bellinger’s Left Field Ranking, According to MLB Network

Cody Bellinger recently signed a five-year, $162.5 million extension with the Yankees, but fans will certainly remember his first season in pinstripes, where he fit in immediately.

Here are his 2025 stats: .272 average, 29 home runs, 98 RBIs, 125 OPS+, 160 Hits, 5.1 bWAR, 152 games.

On the MLB Network’s ‘Top 10 Left Fielders’ right now list, Cody Bellinger came in at number three, behind, wait for it, Boston Red Sox outfielders Roman Anthony and Jarren Duran.

That is sure to spark some controversy among Red Sox and Yankees fans, but behind Cody Bellinger on the list are Riley Greene, Steven Kwan, Jackson Chourio, Kyle Stowers, and James Wood.

Now, the thing that is really in question every year when MLB Network releases this list is what criteria they base the rankings upon. Even if it’s based on recency bias, Romany Anthony, who was a rookie in 2025, didn’t even have close to as good of a statistical season as Bellinger. Anthony played in 71 games with the Red Sox last season.

And Jarren Duran? He hit 16 home runs and .256 in 2025 with fewer hits, home runs, and RBIs than Bellinger.

Is This a Good List By MLB Network?

Again, there always seems to be confusion with these top-10 lists, because Brandon Marsh comes in at No.10 on the shredders list, and Guardians‘ left fielder Steven Kwan, who has won four consecutive Gold Gloves, is nowhere to be found on the list.

Yordan Alvarez makes an appearance on the list at No.7, but he missed a MAJORITY of the 2025 season with injury, and really hasn’t even consistently played left field in several years.

The hope is that the future top 1o lists produced by MLB Network will be more cut and dry, but this left fielders list certainly draws some rather large question marks to what is necessary to be a top performer at a respective position.
