Why Did Carson Beck Transfer to Miami? The Truth Behind the Move

Carson Beck is becoming quite a popular figure in college football, and especially as the College Football Playoff rolls on and the Miami Hurricanes continue to advance. On Wednesday night, just a few hours before the clock strikes midnight and it will be 2026, Carson Beck and the Miami Hurricanes will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in a highly anticipated quarterfinal showdown.

But what else is there to know about Carson Beck? Starting at the top, he was once a highly-ranked prospect, who some analysts believed could be the No.1 overall pick in the NFL draft. That was during his time at the University of Georgia, where he spent four seasons before transferring to the Miami Hurricanes. So why did Beck transfer from such an illustrious football program like Georgia?

Carson Beck’s Transfer Story

Carson Beck tore up the gridiron during the 2023 season with the Georgia Bulldogs. He tossed 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, and completed 72% of his passes in a very memorable 2023 season for Georgia fans.

Beck’s transfer story starts really about a year and a half ago, right before the turn to 2025.

However, Beck’s performance took a turn in the 2024 season, as his interception totals started to climb, but that didn’t mean he was going to be out of a starting job. Beck’s stats in 2024 were: 64% completion, 3485 passing yards, 28 TDs, 12 INT.

Georgia headed into the 2024 SEC championship game with a slight question at quarterback, although Beck had beaten the Texas Longhorns during the regular portion of the 2024 season.

Context is important in this story. Georgia was in a dog fight with the Longhorns for the SEC title a year ago, and right before halftime, Beck attempted a heave towards the endzone, and a Texas defender got in on his arm region to force an awkward throw.

Everyone in the stadium and the millions watching around the world knew it was an ugly injury. Beck was ruled out for the remainder of the game and suffered a severe UCL tear, which put his future in jeopardy.

Carson Beck Lands In Miami to Replenish His Stock

Beck had suddenly lost the Georgia QB job, as now starter, Gunner Stockton, finished out that 2024/2025 season for Georgia, and it became clear a reunion between Georgia and Carson Beck was unlikely.

Before transferring to the Miami Hurricanes, Beck had entered his name in the NFL draft, but his stock had depleted due to poor performance and the new injury concern, so that’s when Carson Beck decided to transfer to the Miami Football program.

He ultimately ended up transferring to Miami for a fresh start, plus with the new NIL rules, Carson Beck is reportedly earning nearly $4 million for his services, and all the endorsement deals he receives could increase that “salary” even further.

The Miami Hurricanes will be looking to score a massive upset on New Year’s Eve against the Buckeyes. After struggling in the first round matchup against Texas A&M, all eyes will be on Carson Beck and every decision he makes.

Beck’s stats in 2025 are as such: 74.5% completion (2nd in FBS), 3,175 passing yards, 26 TDs, 10 INT.
