Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz has revealed why he is ‘still watching’ video clips of Andy Murray as well as the other three Big Four stars.

Murray – along with Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer – have dominated tennis for the last two decades or so but there’s finally been a shift.

Federer retired in 2022, Nadal and Murray have spoken openly about their plans to soon hang up their rackets while Djokovic has largely struggled so far this year.

Alcaraz, alongside Jannik Sinner, are very much the new posterboys of the sport but the young Spaniard feels he still has plenty to learn from his tennis elders, even if he has started throwing in the odd clip of himself into his compilations.

‘I’m still watching videos of Roger, of Andy, of Rafa,’ Alcaraz said on Saturday ahead of his first-round match against Estonia’s Mark Lajal. ‘Novak, as well.

‘I put in videos of myself last year – I’m not going to lie just to see what I did or how I did it (smiling).

‘Just moving, hitting shots, to do the same as I did last year. But I’m not trying to pick anything about other players.’

Alcaraz is hoping to clinch a rare Channel Slam at Wimbledon after his recent triumph at the French Open – where he registered his third major title to date.

The world No.3 is under no illusions just how tough that task will be as he looks to defend his title at the Championships following last year’s epic win over Djokovic.

‘Well, winning Grand Slams is difficult,’ Alcaraz added. ‘Obviously changing from clay to a grass court, totally different surfaces, totally different game of play.

‘Let’s say I’m going to try. Obviously I want to put my name on that short list to win Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year.

‘I know that there’s going to be a really difficult and big challenging for me, but I think I’m ready to do it.

‘As I said, I’m doing great work these last weeks just to get ready, just to feel comfortable to play Wimbledon here in my 100 per cent [condition].’
