‘With his ground he’s right in the mix’ – Templegate’s 12-1 King George ante-post tip

THE news that Fastorslow is out for the season has shaken up the King George market – with new contenders coming into the fold.

This week has seen a big move for Grey Dawning who is as short at 100-30 for the Boxing Day highlight.

PAHewick came from the clouds to win last year’s King George – and a repeat could be on the cards even with his trainer banned[/caption]

He ran a mighty race in the Betfair Chase at Haydock a couple of weeks ago when conditions were pretty bottomless.

I’d be surprised if he’s over that in three weeks and ready to do his best and the Skeltons would be wise to wait with their star chaser.

Fact To File was brilliant when beating Galopin Des Champs over 2m4f at Punchestown a fortnight ago.

The expectation for him was to be stepped up to 3m in the Savills at Leopardstown’s Christmas meeting.

But owner JP McManus may well supplement him for this instead.

He’s got obvious claims if so but is pretty short around the 2-1 mark.

It’s been seven years since we had a winning favourite and four of the past six have been double-figure prices so don’t fear going for an outsider.

I am not massively put off IL EST FRANCAIS even after his poor run last time when he bled.

It’s happened to him before and he’s bounced back – and his brilliant novice win at Kempton last year sticks in the mind.

Connections sound far from sure that he’ll run but if he does and is anything like the current 10-1 on offer, I’ll be having a small interest on the day.

At this stage, this looks a pretty open contest and you can back last year’s winner HEWICK at a tempting 12-1.

He was a good second to Envoi Allen at Down Royal last time and will hopefully get his decent ground at Kempton.

If he does, he’ll be right in the mix to hit the frame again.

BET: HEWICK each-way at 12-1 generally, plus IL EST FRANCAIS at 10-1 if he turns up on the day.
