World Darts Championship star reveals PDC chiefs REJECTED walk-on song request after winning first round match

DARTS star Matthew Edgar has revealed his walk-on song choice was once rejected by World Championship chiefs.

The man nicknamed Prime Time made the second round at Alexandra Palace in 2021.

Edgar, 38, would always head up to the oche while ‘Buck Rogers’ by Feeder was blasting out the speakers.

But before his second round loss to Mensur Suljovic three years ago, his request to come out to wrestler Hulk Hogan’s theme song was turned down by the PDC.

Lifting the lid on darts walk-ons, Edgar said on TikTok: “You simply just present your song to the PDC, who’ll present it to the broadcaster.

“The copyrights, we [players] don’t worry about. That’s to do with the licensing in the arena and that’s something we don’t have to think about as a player, we just suggest what we’d like to use.

“I’ve never really known of a player getting their song choice rejected before – but mine was rejected for a reason.

“I’d won the first game against Maik Kuivenhoven and I was playing Mensur Suljovic in round two.

“I was wearing a Hulk Hogan-inspired shirt. I wanted to come on giving it all the Hulk Hogan stuff, start ‘Hulking up’.

I wanted to use Hulk Hogan’s theme song ‘Real American’ but it was rejected.

“The reason it was rejected is because of familiarity.

“They wanted people to get familiar with the song that I was using at the time – not be chopping and changing throughout the tournament.”

Edgar has featured at the World Championships three times but did not qualify for this year’s event.

But perhaps he would be allowed to change his walk-on tune if he had made it to Ally Pally this time around as the PDC have seemingly relaxed their rules.

Ricky Evans entered to ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ by Shakin’ Stevens and ‘Like A Prayer’ by Madonna for his following match.
